BABSON PARK, Mass. – Connecticut College rebounded from an
early 2-1 deficit with four singles victories as the visiting
Camels rallied for a 5-4 win over host Babson College in a
non-conference women's tennis match on Friday afternoon. With
the win, Connecticut College improved to 6-2 on the year, while the
Beavers lost their fourth straight to fall to 7-8.
Babson built an early lead by taking two of the three doubles
matches. Senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.)
and sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) teamed
up for an 8-3 win at number one, and sophomore Ashley Lake
(Brockton, Mass.) and first-year Victoria Lorido
(Miami, Fla.) combined on a 9-8 (7) tie-break win at
number three. Connecticut College's first point came at
second doubles, where first-year Cassie Smith (Shelburne, Vt.) and
junior Caroline Barone (North Kingstown, R.I.) posted an 8-1
victory.
The Camels came storming back in singles play, earning
straight-set wins by Barone at four, first-year Sara Krivoshik
(Wilton, Conn.) at five, and first-year Jen Herbert (Pawcatuck,
Conn.) at six. Smith then clinched the come-from-behind win by
taking her match at number one, 7-5, 6-2.
Babson's final two points came at number two singles,
where Stone prevailed, 7-5, 6-4, and at three, where senior captain
Lorena Becerra (Key Biscayne, Fla.) gutted out an
impressive 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 victory.
