Mercer Helps Women's Tennis Complete 5-4 Comeback Win At Simmons

BOX SCORE

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Babson College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 with a close 5-4 victory at Simmons College on Tuesday. Junior Monica Mercer provided the Beavers with the decisive point, as her three-set win at third singles snapped a 4-4 tie.

Simmons held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Babson's lone point coming courtesy of an 8-4 win at number two by senior captain Jes Huang and sophomore Ashley Lake. The two teams then split the first four singles matches to finish, with Huang and sophomore Rebecca Stone earning wins at one and two, respectively.

With the Beavers trailing 4-3, first-year Mikaela Stamas rebounded from a second-set defeat to win her match at number four, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. That tied the overall score at 4-4, and Mercer completed Babson's comeback victory by dominating the final two sets of her match at three, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
