BOSTON, Mass. -- The Babson College women's tennis team improved to
2-0 with a close 5-4 victory at Simmons College on Tuesday. Junior
Monica Mercer provided the Beavers with the
decisive point, as her three-set win at third singles snapped a 4-4
tie.
Simmons held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Babson's lone
point coming courtesy of an 8-4 win at number two by senior captain
Jes Huang and sophomore Ashley
Lake. The two teams then split the first four singles
matches to finish, with Huang and sophomore Rebecca
Stone earning wins at one and two, respectively.
With the Beavers trailing 4-3, first-year Mikaela
Stamas rebounded from a second-set defeat to win her match
at number four, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. That tied the overall score at 4-4,
and Mercer completed Babson's comeback victory by dominating the
final two sets of her match at three, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
