BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team
held Babson to a season-low 34 points and improved to 8-1 at
Morrell Gymnasium this season with a 56-34 victory on Tuesday
evening. The Polar Bears stand at 13-6 this season while the
Beavers fall to 10-10.
Both teams struggled in the early going, as the squads combined for
21 first-half turnovers and were tied 12-12 midway through the
period. Behind the sharpshooting of Kyle Jackson and Ryan O'Connell
Bowdoin caught fire late in the stanza, outscoring the Beavers 24-5
over the remainder of the half. Jackson capped the run with a
half-court buzzer-beater to give the hosts a 33-17 advantage at the
break.
Bowdoin continued their strong play to open the second half,
putting the game out of reach with a 9-0 surge immediately after
intermission. For the game, the Polar Bears stifled the Beavers,
holding the visitors to just 22.9% shooting and blocking seven
shots as a team.
Kyle Jackson led all scorers with 17 points on 6-8 shooting,
including 5-6 from three-point range. He also collected five
assists, four steals and a pair of blocks in the win. Tim Lane and
Ryan O'Connell both added eight in support of Jackson.
Babson was led by 10 points and six boards off the bench from
senior Pat Belniak.
