PASADENA, Calif. -- First-year Marcus Edwards (East Hampton, N.Y.)
scored 22 points and recorded six of his team's 23 steals as the
Babson College men's basketball team capped off a highly successful
west coast trip with a convincing 81-42 victory over host Caltech
at the Caltech Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon.
Babson (8-3) used another dominating defensive performance
against Caltech, forcing 31 turnovers while holsing the hosts to
34.3 percent shooting. The Beavers also held a commanding 44-28
advantage on the boards. In the team's two games at the tournament,
Babson recorded 36 steals while forcing 51 turnovers and holding
the opposition to a paltry 35.8 percent clip from the field.
The Beavers never trailed in the contest, scoring 11 straight
points to start the game and 17 of the first 19 en route to a 34-19
lead at halftime. Babson then continued to dominated play in the
second half, as the visitors cruised to the easy 81-42 win.
Edwards's game-high came on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and
2-of-2 shooting from the line. Sophomore Matt Zoia (Nashua, N.H.) added 11
points - all coming in the second half - and sophomore Dana Mauro (Wethersfield, Conn.) netted
nine to go with six rebounds. Senior Pat Belniak (Sutton, Mass.) contributed
eight points, a team-high eight boards, and three steals for the
Beavers, and senior captain Zach
Etten (Hollis, N.H.) and sophomore Shelton Ladson (New York, N.Y.) each
chipped in with four steals.
