SCORE
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Macary
(Woodbury, Conn.) made her first career start in net and
made nine saves to help the Babson College women's soccer team earn
a 1-1 tie with host Bowdoin College in a non-conference contest on
Sunday afternoon. With the tie, the Beavers are now 2-1-1 on the
year, while the Polar Bears move to 1-0-1.
After a scoreless first half, senior tri-captain Shir
Castel (Boston, Mass.) took a lead pass from sophomore
Patty Pytlik (Wellesley, Mass.) down the right
sideline, dribbled to goal, and squeezed a shot between Bowdoin
first-year Rachel Schwemberger and the near post for a 1-0 lead at
57:47. Things stayed that way until the 78th minute when Christina
Aceto won a battle in the middle of the box and the ball deflected
to Silva, who buried a left-footed rocket into the net to even the
game at 77:24.
Neither team would score in the two 10-minute overtime sessions
as the contest ended in a 1-1 tie. It was the second deadlock
between the two teams in the last three seasons, and it improved
the Beavers' record against the Polar Bears to 1-2-2 over the last
five years after Bowdoin dominated the previous 21 meetings.
One of the top lacrosse goalies in the nation last spring,
Macary was magnificent in her first start in net for the soccer
team. The sophomore keeper made seven saves i nregulation,
including a tremendous diving stop on a Silva shot with 15 minutes
left, and two more in overtime. Schwemberger was also making her
collegiate debut and played well, finishing with five saves,
including three in the extra sessions.
