BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College women's soccer team
defeated visiting Clark University 1-0 in a New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game Saturday afternoon at
Hartwell-Rogers Field. Babson senior tri-captain Jackie
Graham (Winchester, Mass.) scored the only goal of the
game to help lead the Beavers to victory. With the win, Babson
improves to 6-3-4, 2-0-2 in the NEWMAC, and Clarks is now 5-6-0,
2-2-0 NEWMAC.
Graham's goal came in the 25th minute of the play when there was
a scramble in front of the net between Babson sophomore
Patty Pytlik (Wellesley, Mass.) and Clark
goalkeeper Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine). Pytlik was able to knock
the ball free to Graham who scored in the open net for the lone
goal of the game.
Behind solid efforts from defenders Sam Bartman
(Upton, Mass.), Laura Bucci (Norfolk,
Mass.), Kayla Pomponi (Belmont, Mass.),
and Katie Warjas (Dedham, Mass.), Babson
allowed just one off-goal shot in the contest.
Babson sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Macary (Woodbury,
Conn.) also played the entire game for the Beavers but was
not called upon to make any saves. Clark goalkeeper Joanna Clark
made eight saves for the Cougars, six of which came in the second
half.
The Beavers return home on Tuesday, October 14th for another
NEWMAC contest against Wheaton College at 3:30 pm. Clark also
continues NEWMAC play Tuesday when they visit Smith College for a
4:00 pm game.
