Women's Basketball Trumps MIT, 69-52

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Senior Caitlin Fenn (Niantic, Conn.) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Babson College women's basketball team to a 69-52 victory over visiting MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Skaake Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. With their fifth win in seven games, the Beavers improved to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Engineers fell to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.

Fenn shot 8-for-13 from the field for her game-high 18 points while also recording three assists and four steals. Senior co-captain Caitlin Boulier (Wolcott, Conn.) added 13 points and five assists, and first-year Rebecca Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) netted 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Rookie Amanda Grammel (Leominster, Mass.) also had a strong game with seven assists for the Beavers, while junior Jillian Brooks (Ashland, Mass.) added seven points and four boards off the bench.

MIT was led by Clara Yuan (San Jose, Calif.) with 17 points and Kelsey Cappelle (Ringoes, N.J.) and Samia Mahjub (Barrington, Ill.) with 14 points apiece. Cappelle also recorded five steals in the loss, while Mahjub grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Babson took control of the contest four minutes in, going on a 13-0 run to turn a 6-6 tie into a 19-6 advantage. Fenn scored the final seven points of the barage, while Bowman added five more. The Beavers eventually led by as many as 17 before taking a 37-27 cushion into the break. MIT never threatened in the second half, as Babson scored the first five points of the period and led by a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
