Jake Pancratz hit the go-ahead free throw and sunk a key three-pointer late in the contest for the University of Chicago. With the Maroons trailing 65-64 with 2:16 left in the game, he converted a pair of free throw attempts to put Chicago (6-4) in front for good. Pancratz was 6-for-6 from the line on the day en route to a 19-point performance.
The Beavers trailed 39-28 early in the second half before tying the game at 52-52 at the 10:19 mark on a three-pointer from Bush.
A Pancratz three-pointer capped a 9-0 Chicago run, giving the Maroons a 61-52 advantage at the 8:11 mark, but Babson scored the next seven points to cut the Chicago lead to 61-59 with 6:02 remaining.
Senior Brian MacDonald's basket with 2:31 to go gave Babson (3-7) its only lead of the second half, 65-64, before Chicago scored four straight points to go back in front for good. After Pancratz's third three-pointer of the afternoon gave Chicago a 71-67 edge at the 1:07 mark, Kyle McDonald scored on a layup with 48 seconds left to trim the Maroons' lead to two points, but that would be as close as the Beavers would get the rest of the way. Matt Corning, who led all scorers with 20 points, sealed the victory for the Maroons when he made a pair of foul shots with 16 seconds on the clock.
Tim Reynolds and Nate Hainje helped lift the Maroons to their third straight win. Reynolds, who was perfect on four three-point attempts, finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots. Hainje tallied 10 points and led Chicago with nine boards and nine assists.
