BABSON PARK, Mass. - Senior Jen Dabrowski (Plainville. Conn.) scored 25 points to earn Most Valuable Player honors as the Western New England College Golden Bears defeated the host Babson College Beavers, 77-73, in the championship game of the 2007 Babson Invitational Women's Basketball Tournament presented by Irving Oil on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, WNEC improved to 2-0, while the Beavers fell to 1-1.
The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 17-7 lead in the first six minutes of play and eventually led by as many as 16 after a three-pointer by first-year Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, Conn.) made it 33-17 with 5:29 left in the first half. Babson would whittle the lead down to nine with 3:10 remaining before WNEC took a 41-30 advantage into the break.
Western New England took its largest lead of the game, 51-32, on a jumper by first-year Lauren Stock (Rocky Hill, Conn.) with 15:38 left in the second stanza and still led by double-figures at 70-56 with 7:24 remaining. However, Babson chipped away at the deficit with an 8-0 run that made it 70-64 with three minutes on the clock, and later got to within three (74-71) on a lay-up by senior Linsey Poulson (Leominster, Mass.) with 1:45 to play.
It remained a three-point game until Babson first-year Becky Bowman (Melrose, Mass.) converted a lay-up off a nice entry pass from senior Caitlin Boulier (Wolcott, Conn.) that pulled the Beavers to within one at 74-73 with 23 seconds remaining in the game. However, Dabrowski drew a quick foul and sank both free throws to push WNEC's lead back to three, and, after a missed three-pointer by the Beavers, DeRosa converted one of two with 7.7 seconds on the clock to finish off the 77-73 victory.
Along with her game-high 25 points, Dabrowski also collected seven rebounds to earn Tournament MVP honors. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by first-year teammate Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, Conn.), who tossed in 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Stock added 18 points and eight boards for the Golden Bears, and DeRosa finished with 13 points, six caroms, and three steals.
Poulson paced Babson with 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Fenn contributed 14 points and three assists as both were named to the All-Tournament Team. Boulier added 14 points and three blocked shots for the Beavers, while first-year Amanda Grammel (Leominster, Mass.) chipped in with nine points, four boards, and three steals.
Rounding out the All-Tournament Team were junior Alli Gamache (Dudley, Mass.) of UNE and first-year Chessie Jackson (Goleta, Calif.) of Williams. Williams defeated UNE in the consolation game, 84-74.

Williams Defeats UNE, 84-74, In BIT/Irving Oil Consolation Game 
BABSON PARK, Mass. - First-year Chessie Jackson (Goleta, Calif.) led all players with 25 points as the Williams College women's basketball team claimed a 84-74 win over the University of New England in the consolation game of the 2007 Babson Invitational Tournament presented by Irving Oil on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Ephs evened their record at (1-1), while the Golden Bears slipped to 0-2.
As a result of her 25-point, nine-rebound performance, Jackson was named to the All-Tournament Team. Junior Alli Gamache (Dudley, Mass.) was also selected to the All-Tournament Team for UNE after pacing the Nor'easters with 18 points, five assists, and three steals.
Williams dominated the first half, leading by as many as 21 on two occasions before heading into the locker room with a 44-30 advantage. UNE then fought back in the second half, getting to within six with 12 minutes remaining and later to within three on a jumper by junior Annie Foster (South Paris, Maine) with eight minutes to play. First-year Kylie Bragdon (Winter Harbor, Maine) later cut it to just two, 71-69, with 4:10 on the clock, but Williams rattled off six straight points over the next 1:40 to pull away for good. Jackson ignited the run with a jumper just insude four minutes, while first-years Jessica Harris (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and Jamie Neal (Duxbury, Mass.) each added buckets with 3:15 and 2:30 left, respectively. The Nor'easters would get no closer than five the rest of the way as Williams finished off the 84-74 victory.
Jackson recorded nine rebouds and four blocked shots to go along with her 25 points for Williams, while Harris finished with 19 points and 11 boards in the winning effort. Junior Mika Peterman (Los Altos, Calif.) added 13 points and seven assists, and first-year Taylor Shea (Allendale, N.J.) chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Foster and first-year Carrie Bunnell (Barnet, Vt.) joined Gamache in double figures for UNE with 15 and 13 points, respectively, while sophomore Katie Diggins (Merrimack, N.H.) added seven points, 12 rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and four steals.
