Box Score WELLESLEY, Mass. — The Babson College women's tennis team wrapped an outstanding weekend of play on day three of the Wellesley College Invitational, winning eight of nine singles matches over the host Blue on Sunday afternoon.
The Beavers won 14 of 16 singles matches and 13 out of 14 singles matches in the three-day round-robin tournament, which included Babson, Wellesley, Brandeis and Bates.
The Green and White started the day with three victories over the Blue as sophomore
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) defeated senior Suzanne Xu, 8-2; first-year
Te'Anna Mata (Naples, Fla.) downed sophomore Luna Bian, 8-3; and sophomore
Elizabeth Shu (Sugar Land, Texas) finished off junior Sofia Corte-Real, 8-2.
The second round saw sophomore
Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) hand junior Nandini Patel an 8-2 decision, and junior
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) defeat first-year Kakou Narita, 8-2. Wellesley junior Sophie Buttorff posted an 8-6 triumph over senior
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt).
Babson swept the final three matches as first-year
Vanessa Vu (Boston, Mass.) defeated senior Veda Madhusudan, 8-3; sophomore
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador) knocked off first-year Sophia Liang, 8-2; and senior
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was an 8-4 winner over senior Lily Cade.
The Beavers will play their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match at Salve Regina on September 19 in Newport, R.I.
Tournament Notes
• Sikharulidze, Mata, Shu, Wang, Dorismond, Vu and Soffer all went 2-0 in singles over the weekend.
• The Beaver tandems of Sikharulidze and Shu, Dorismond and Wang, and Kamal and Moscoso all went 3-0 in doubles.
