WELLESLEY, Mass. — The Babson College women's tennis team got its 2026-27 season off to a successful start at the Wellesley College Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Beavers won all five doubles matches over Brandeis University and took four out of five doubles encounters against the host Blue.
Starting the day against Brandeis, is was a complete sweep for Babson as sophomores
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Elizabeth Shu (Sugar Land, Texas) defeated sophomore Milani Sofizade and first-year Kayla Chan, 6-3; first-years
Te'Anna Mata (Naples, Fla.) and
Vanessa Vu (Boston, Mass.) were 6-4 winners over senior Chahana Bughbhatti and first-year Anushka Bhola; and junior
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) and sophomore
Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) breezed to a 6-1 triumph over sophomore Avani Chitale and first-year Beatriz Ohara.
The next matches against the Judges included 6-0 Babson wins by senior
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador) over first-years Jillian Yang and Elli Gerontikou, and sophomore
Tina Liu (Plantation, Fla.) and senior
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) over sophomore Galia Harmelin and first-year Laura Tasias.
The second round pitted Babson against host Wellesley, with the Beavers taking four out of five in doubles. Sikharulidze and Shu defeated senior Suzanne Xu and sophomore Luna Bian, 6-4; Dorismond and Wang got past junior Sofia Corte-Real and first-year Kakou Narita, 6-2; Kamak and Moscoso knocked off senior Lily Cade and senior Kriti Sarav, 6-2, and Liu and Soffer prevailed over senior Veda Madhusudan and first-year Zoe Li, 6-2. The lone victory for Wellesley was juniors Nandini Patel and Sophie Buttorff getting past Mata and Vu. 6-4.
The tournament, which also includes Bates College, will continues with Babson taking on Brandeis in singles matches beginning at 9 a.m., followed by Babson vs. Bates in doubles beginning at 1:30 p.m. The event concludes with additional round-robin matches on Sunday.
