BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College has announced that
Michelle Smith will not return as the head women's lacrosse coach.
Over 15 seasons at Babson, Smith compiled a 161-90 record while claiming seven New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season titles, five conference tournament championships and six NCAA Tournament bids. The 2024 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Berkshire Region Coach of the Year, Smith was also recognized as the conference coach of the year on three occasions and leaves Babson as the program's all-time winningest coach.
Smith guided the Beavers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017, 2018 and 2023 before putting together a historic 2024 campaign that included a school record for wins and the program's first NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berth since 2010. The Green and White went 10-0 in league play, secured conference regular season and tournament titles for the first time since 2017, and defeated Stevens in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Salisbury in the regional semifinals to close the year at 17-3.
Smith led the Babson to 13 or more wins nine times and her players earned seven All-America honors, 51 all-region awards and 76 all-conference accolades going back to 2012.
The Beavers concluded the 2026 season with a record of 11-7 after falling to nationally-ranked MIT in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals on April 29.
A national search for Babson's next head women's lacrosse coach is currently underway.
