Elaina Head (Kailua Kona, Hawaii) received two major awards when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its women's track & field post-season honors on Friday afternoon.
Head was named the NEWMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year as well as the Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Year. The major post-season awards were voted on by the 10 head coaches following last weekend's NEWMAC Championships.
Head is just the third athlete in program history to receive a NEWMAC major award following junior
Colleen Corman (Quaker Hill, Conn.), who was rookie of the year in 2024, and Marina Capalbo '15, who was track athlete of the year in 2015.
A standout in the jumps for the Beavers, Head achieved three podium appearances at the conference meet including two All-NEWMAC performances (top two) and a pair of program records. She captured the long jump title on Friday with a program-record mark of 17-feet, 9.75-inches, then placed third in the high jump on Saturday, matching her season best by clearing 5-feet, 3.25-inches, and completed her day with a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a program-record leap of 37-feet, 7.75-inches,
Head also ran the anchor leg on Babson's 4x400-meter relay team that placed fifth in the conference with a time of 4:09.86.
With her performances at the NEWMAC meet, Head ranks 11th in New England Division III in both the high jump and triple jump and 24th in the long jump. Nationally in Division III, she ranks 42nd in the triple jump, 59th in the high jump, and 112th in the long jump.
The Beavers return to action on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Springfield for the New England Division III Championships.
