MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— On the heels of a four-game winning streak, Babson College swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse weekly awards on Monday as sophomore
Courtney Laden (Wilmette, Ill./ New Trier) and first-year
Francesca Tamburini (North Bend, Wash./Mount Si) were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Laden matched her season high with four goals and also had three draw controls in Babson's 13-9 win at Wheaton in the regular season finale on Wednesday night. She scored all four of her goals in the first 19 minutes of the contest to spark an eight-goal run that helped the Beavers build a 9-2 lead late in the second quarter.
A transfer from Delaware, Laden has started all 17 games and is third on the team in scoring with 35 goals and one assist for 35 games, while she leads the team with 60 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers and is tied for second with 25 ground balls. She ranks eighth in the NEWMAC in both draw controls and caused turnovers.
Making just her third start of the season, Tamburini finished with a season-high eight saves to help Babson defeat Wheaton, 13-9, in Wednesday's regular season finale. She made three key saves during the third quarter to help the Beavers maintain their six-goal halftime lead and also scooped up two ground balls in the victory.
Tamburini has made 10 appearances with four starts this season, compiling a 4-1 record with a 7.61 goals against average and a .444 save percentage with 32 saves.
The fourth-seeded Beavers (11-6, 7-3 NEWMAC) knocked off fifth-seeded Smith 14-7 in a first-round playoff game on Saturday and will travel to top-seeded and 24th-ranked MIT for a semifinal match-up on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Cambridge.
