MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— For the fifth time this season, Babson College senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) was recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with the selection of the Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Cristiani went 2-0 at number one singles to end the regular season with a perfect 30-0 record. She beat Lauren Long of No. 13 Washington & Lee 6-1, 7-5 in Thursday's 7-0 victory at then posted a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over 13th-ranked Saina Deshpande in the Beavers' 4-3 loss to No. 10 MIT on Saturday.
 
Ranked No. 1 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Cristiani has posted 27 of her 30 victories this season in straight sets, including the last 18 in a row. She has registered six victories over nationally-ranked opponents and 12 victories in her last 13 matches against the number one player on a nationally-ranked team.
 
The seventh-ranked Beavers (14-4, 7-1 NEWMAC) will host a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal against either Wellesley or Wheaton on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Babson Tennis Courts.
