Head Breaks Program Record in Triple Jump for Women’s Track & Field at Tufts Spring Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass.— First-year Elaina Head (Kailua Kona, Hawaii) broke the program record in the triple jump as the Babson College women's track & field team competed in seven events on day one of the Tufts Spring Invitational Friday at the Ellis Oval/Zimman Field/Dussault Track.

Head produced a mark of 37-feet, 3.25 inches and placed fifth overall, jumping nearly two feet further than her previous best. She broke the mark of 36-feet, 7.75-inches set by senior Trista Sicard (Mansfield, Mass.) at the 2024 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships. First-year Emma Hsu (Tenafly, N.J.) placed 10th in the event with a season-best mark of 35-feet, 2-inches and Sicard was 12th with a mark of 34-feet, 10.25 inches.

Sophomore Kate Henderson (Basking Ridge, N.J.) finished with an impressive eighth place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 108-feet, 4-inches. Sicard placed 18th in the hammer throw with a mark of 109-feet, 5-inches and junior Ava Newton (Danvers, Mass.) was 20th with a throw of 94-feet, 1-inch.

Babson had four runners compete in the 10,000 meters. Junior Taijah Harvey (Concord, Mass.) came in 12th in a time of 41:55.42, senior Alexandra Kirkpatrick (Middleborough, Mass.) was 13th in 42:08.63, and sophomore Annabelle Svenson (Montclair, N.J.) was 14th in 42:15.54. First-year Sophia Nakakura (San Francisco, Calif.) completed her first collegiate 10K on the track in 44:28.08.
 
Sophomore Shriya Peddi (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) crossed the line in 24th place in the 5000 meters in a time of 19:29.19. The Beavers were represented by three runners in the 1500 meters; sophomore Sophia Draxler (Chester, N.J.) finished 24th in 5:10.73 with first-year Ali Meyers (Darien, Conn.) right behind in 25th in 5:12.49 and senior Avery Butt (Orange, Conn.) in 30th in 5:21.69.

Junior Maddie Stoltz (Somers, Conn.) sits in 20th place through four events of the heptathlon. Her best finish was a 17th place in the shot put with a mark of 25-feet, 10-inches.

The Beavers will compete on day two at the Tufts Spring Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m
