Cristiani, Sikharulidze Capture NEWMAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Honors in Both Singles and Doubles

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— Babson College senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and first-year Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) captured both weekly honors from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Monday afternoon as Cristiani earned her second straight Singles Player of the Week award and the tandem of Cristiani and Sikharulidze was named Doubles Team of the Week.

Cristiani went 2-0 at number one singles to help No. 9 Babson defeat 24th-ranked NYU and 10th-ranked Bowdoin over the weekend. She was a 7-6, 6-1 winner over 13th-ranked Victoria Wang in the Beavers' 4-1 victory over NYU and then cruised past Cara Hung 6-1, 6-4 as the Beavers defeated the Polar Bears, 4-3, on Sunday.

The top-ranked singles player in Division III, Cristiani registered her program-record 200th career overall win and tied former teammate Olivia Soffer '25 for the most singles wins in program history a 99-4 career singles mark.

The duo of Cristiani and Sikharulidze went 2-0 at number singles as No. 9 Babson stayed unbeaten with victories over No. 24 NYU and 10th-ranked Bowdoin. The Beavers' top pairing defeated Sophia Yang and Visnja Gusavac 6-4 in the 4-1 triumph over NYU and were 6-3 winners over Isabella Hartung and Zoe Sun in Sunday's 4-3 decision over the Polar Bears.

The ninth-ranked doubles team in Division III, Cristiani and Sikharulidze improved their record to 17-2 on the season, including 2-0 in dual matches. The Babson duo captured the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England doubles title back in September and advanced to the ITA Cup quarterfinals in October.

The Beavers (4-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) return to action with three matches against top-10 teams during the team's spring break in Hilton Head, S.C., beginning with No. 1 Washington University of St. Louis on March 15.
