Men's Golf Makes Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational Debut on Friday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's golf team travels to southeast Georgia to compete in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational for the first time in program history beginning on Thursday.
•    The 54-hole event features 18 holes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the Pines Lakes Course, a 6,701-yard par-72 layout. 
•    In addition to the Collegiate Invitational, the Beavers have six players taking part in the Indian Mound Invitational on the 6,469-yard par-72 Indian Mound Course, which features 25 competitors from 11 different schools. 

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
•    Babson is set to compete in its second tournament of the spring after placing 15th out of 20 teams at the 54-hole Tiger Invitational at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C., back on March 9-10. 
•    Junior Jack Berry was 2-under through 36 holes and tied for 19th overall at 1-over 217, senior Shane Quinn shot 75-75-74 to grab a share of 49th place at 8-over 224 and sophomore Aman Vantipalli tied for 57th position at 10-over 226 for the Beavers, who posted a 54-hole score of 33-over 897. 
•    Vantipalli owns three top-25 finishes in six events and is first on the team with a 74.14 stroke average, Berry (74.21) leads the squad with four rounds under par and has finished among the top 20 three times in six tournaments, and senior Colin Fowler also has three top-20 showings and is third on the team with a 75.29 stroke average on the year. 
•    The Green and White owns a 297.36 team scoring average and has finished at 296 or lower in six of 14 rounds on the year. 

BABSON IN THE SCOREBOARD RANKINGS
•    The Beavers enter the Jekyll Island College Invitational at No. 33 in the most recent Scoreboard Division III rankings released on Wednesday. 
•    Thanks to his tie for 19th place at the Tiger Invitational, Berry moved up 22 spots to 88th among Division III players and also is ranked third in Region I. 
•    The Green and White is currently ranked first in Region I and both Vantipalli (5th) and Fowler (12th) 

STRONG FIELD HEADS TO JEKYLL ISLAND
•    Traditionally recognized as one of the top Division III tournaments each season, this year's 24-team field features 15 of the top 20 squads in the Scoreboard rankings including nine of the top 10 in No. 1 Huntingdon, No. 2 Emory, No. 3 Carnegie Mellon, No. 4 Washington & Lee, No. 5 Methodist, No. 6 Sewanee, No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 10 Oglethorpe. 
•    Overall, 18 of the 24 teams competing enter the weekend ranked among the top 50. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson's top 54-hole score of the season was 22-over 874 to win the Williams Invitational back on September 20-21. 
•    The winning score at last year's Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational was 9-under 855 by Huntingdon and 22 of the 30 teams finished with a  54-hole total of 897 or better.
•    The scoring average over three rounds last season at the Pine Lakes Course was 74.92. 

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers travel to Williamsburg, Va., to compete in the Sam Snead Collegiate hosted by Piedmont on April 13-14.
