Matthias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.) and three teammates were recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with weekly honors on Monday afternoon, as McFarlane was named Men's Swimmer of the Week and he was joined by sophomores
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J. ) and
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.) and first-year
Evan Hong (Longmeadow, Mass.) on the NEWMAC Men's Relay Team of the Week.
A breaststroke and freestyle specialist, McFarlane finished first in both of his individual events and was a part of two more victories in the relays as Babson concluded its regular season with a 181.5-116.5 victory at Springfield on Saturday. McFarlane won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 58.12 and followed it up by coming in first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.73.
Babson's quartet of Ambelang, Huynh, McFarlane and Hong won the 400 medley relay by just under a second with a time of 3:30.40 to help Babson end the regular season with a victory at Springfield, recording with their highest dual-meet winning percentage since 2020.
The Beavers, which went 8-1 in dual meets, will compete in the four-day NEWMAC Championships at MIT on February 19-22, beginning on February 19 at 6 p.m. in Cambridge.
