Women's Basketball Hosts Clark in NEWMAC Semifinal on Friday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 36-22 all-time against Clark in a series that dates back to the 1976-77 campaign. 
•    The Beavers have won 15 in a row and 25 of their last 26 games versus the Cougars going back to 2008, although all of games have been played in the regular season. 
•    The Green and White has won 13 straight games against Staake Gymnasium against Clark since suffering a 65-53 loss back on January 27, 2007. 

POSTSEASON HISTORY
•    Babson and Clark will meet for the first time since 2006 and just the eighth time overall in the conference playoffs on Friday night. 
•    The Beavers are just 3-5 versus the Cougars in the postseason and Friday's contest is the first semifinal matchup between Babson and Clark since 2000, which marked the last of four straight years the programs hooked up in either the semifinals or finals. 

LAST MEETING
•    Graduate student Emily Flynn led three players in double figures with 15 points and Babson opened the third quarter with a 15-2 to post a 65-56 come-from-behind win over Clark on February 14 in Worcester, Mass. 
•    Flynn added nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, sophomore Rylie Rosenberg scored 13 points and senior Alyssa Hopps provided a career-high 12 points, five boards and two blocked shots for the Beavers, who shot 46.7 percent in the second half and outscored the hosts 42-32 in the paint. 
•    Cyriah Coleman led all players with 19 points and Olivia Shipley added 12 points and six rebounds for the Cougars, who led 32-23 late in the first half and scored 25 points off turnovers but were held to just 2-of-15 shooting in the third quarter. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Second-seeded Babson (18-8) has won nine of its last 10 games and is back in the NEWMAC semifinals following a one-year hiatus thanks to a 92-68 victory over seventh-seeded Coast Guard in Wednesday's quarterfinals. 
•    Rosenberg finished 7-of-11 from three-point range and scored a career-high 23 points, sophomore Julia St. Laurent provided 14 points, senior Allessia Carlo chipped in with 12 points and Hopps contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for the Beavers, who shot a season-best 56.9 percent and led by double figures for much of the final three quarters. 
•    Flynn (14.9 pts, 7.6 reb, 3.5 ast) is shooting 43.5 percent and ranks fifth in the conference in scoring and assists and eighth in rebounding, Rosenberg (11.1 pts, 3.0 reb, 2.2 ast) is averaging 17.8 points over the last four games and senior Chloe Perreault (7.9 pts, 6.3 reb) has made at least one three-pointer in 11 of the last 12 contests. 
•    The Green and White ranked second in the regular season against conference opponents in both scoring offense (64.8 points) and rebounding margin (+6.6) while holding foes to just 55.4 points per game on 35.7 percent shooting. 

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
•    Third-seeded Clark (18-8) defeated sixth-seeded WPI 65-53 in Wednesday's quarterfinal round to advance to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2017. 
•    Atiya Watson went 9-of-12 at the free throw line and led all players with 15 points, Coleman produced 12 points and three steals and Catherine Antwi came off the bench to score 10 points for the Cougars, who forced 25 turnovers and outscored the Engineers 17-6 at the free throw line. 
•    Coleman (12.7 pts, 5.6 reb, 4.0 ast, 2.1 stl) ranks 10th in the league in scoring, second in assists and sixth in steals, Watson (10.9 pts, 3.0 ast, 2.8 reb) has scored in double figures in six of the last nine outings and Kailey Rios (9.8 pts, 2.8 reb) has scored in double digits 12 times on the year but is just 7-of-33 shooting (21.2 percent) over the last six contests. 
•    Clark ranks second against league foes in field goal percentage defense (35.1) and is allowing 55.7 points while forcing a conference-best 22.5 turnovers per game.

BEAVERS IN THE POSTSEASON
•    Babson has captured 10 NEWMAC/NEW 8 Tournament championships going back to 1991 (1991, 1993, 1999, 2009-13, 2015, 2017) and most recently reached the conference tournament final in three consecutive seasons from 2022-24. 
•    The Beavers 19-14 all-time in the semifinal round of the conference tournament since the formation of the NEW 6 Conference in 1986 and have won their last three going back to 2022. 
•    The Green and White has advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament final 11 times in 16 tries since 2009. 

RECORD-SETTING WEDNESDAY NIGHT
•    Babson set a new single-game postseason record by scoring 92 points, which surpassed its previous high in an 88-50 NEWMAC quarterfinal win over MIT back on February 24, 1994. 
•    In addition shooting a season-best 56.9 percent from the field they also knocked down 61.1 percent of their three-pointers (11-of-18), which was good for the team's highest percentage when attempting at least 10 triples since going 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) in a 79-41 victory over Wheaton in the 2023 conference quarterfinals. 

TOURNAMENT TESTED
•    Entering the NEWMAC Tournament, Emily Flynn, Perreault and Carlo has combined to play 23 postseason games since 2023. 
•    Flynn has reached double figures three times in five outings while averaging 8.0 points and 2.8 rebounds, and had 10 points, four boards and two assists in last winter's quarterfinal loss to WPI.
•    Perreault, who has played in all 11 of Babson's postseason games over the last three seasons, pulled down six boards in a 2023 NCAA Tournament first round contest in 2023 and followed it up with seven points in the Beavers' Sweet 16 victory over Marietta a week later. 
•    Carlo came off the bench to score seven points in Babson's overtime upset of Springfield in the 2024 NEWMAC semifinals and made her first postseason start last year in the quarterfinal versus WPI. 

FEBRUARY IN FOCUS
•    Despite falling to Smith in its regular season home finale last Wednesday, the Beavers are 18-5 in the month of February under third-year head coach Kate Barnosky
•    The Green and White is 13-2 in February over the last two seasons and has allowed fewer than 60 points nine times over the 15 games. 
•    Babson is outscoring its foes by 0.15 points per possession in six games this month while forcing 15.7 turnovers and holding its foes to just 27.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc. 

THREE AT A TIME
•    For the first time in program history, Babson has three players with at least 35 three-pointers this winter. 
•    Rosenberg (59) and Flynn (47) and rank third and sixth in the NEWMAC, respectively, while Perreault's career-high 38 triples are good for 13th in the league.
•    Rosenberg's 59 triples rank third in single-season program history behind the 94 made by Katelyn Mollica '25 last season and her 69 trifectas in 2023-24.
•    Flynn is fifth in Babson history with 115 career three-pointers, while Perreault is 13th on the program's all-time list with 71 trifectas. 

BABSON TRENDS
•    All five of the Beavers' regular starters are averaging better than six points per game in league play and each of the five has led the team in scoring at least once over the last nine contests. 
•    Rosenberg has made 16 three-pointers over the last two contests and has a team-high 20 steals in NEWMAC play. 
•    St. Laurent reached double figures in scoring six times in 10 conference games while shooting 47.3 percent from the field.
•    Emily Flynn, who missed Saturday's win at Wheaton, has scored in double figures in 15 of her last 18 games going back to November 28. 
•    Carlo has averaged 6.5 points in league play in addition to boasting a 1.93 assist-to-turnover ratio.
•    Hopps averaged 9.5 points and .48 rebounds while shooting 48.4 percent from the field over the final four games of the regular season.
•    Sophomore Mary Kate Flynn is averaging 6.1 rebounds over the last 10 games.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 13-1 when leading at halftime and 17-0 when ahead entering the fourth quarter this season.
•    Babson is 12-2 when shooting 40 percent or better from the field on the year.
•    The Green and White is 17-4 this winter when outrebounding its opponents.
•    The Beavers are 17-2 on the year when scoring at least 60 points.
•    Babson is 12-2 this season when holding its opponent below 40 percent shooting.
•    The Green and White is 11-2 when making at least eight three-pointers.
•    The Beavers are 12-1 when three or more players score in double figures.
