MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— For the first round of women's tennis weekly honors this season, Babson College senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Cristiani opened the spring by cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lia Melvin of No. 7 Johns Hopkins at number one singles in then-No. 14 Babson's 4-3 season-opening victory over the Blue Jays back on January 31.
 
The top-ranked singles player in Division III, Cristiani improved her career records to 97-4 in singles and 99-10 in doubles. Her 196 career victories equals the program record for combined victories held by former teammate Olivia Soffer.
 
The ninth-ranked Beavers (2-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) will be back on the courts against No. 24 NYU this Saturday in Cambridge, Mass.
