QUEENSBURY, N.Y.—First-year
Niko Leunig (Evergreen, Colo.) won his fifth consecutive race and the Babson College men's alpine ski team swept the podium in the giant slalom to secure its second straight MacConnell Division title on Sunday afternoon at West Mountain.
The Beavers' top three finishers were more than 11 seconds faster than second-place Clarkson, while Castleton and UConn came in third and fourth, respectively. Babson, which claimed its first division title since 1993 last winter, has now won back-to-back MacConnell Division crowns for the first time in 33 years.
Leuning, who has won all four of the league's giant slalom races this winter, finished atop the podium for the fifth straight race with a two-run time of 2:06.12. Senior
Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France) was the runner-up with a time of 2:07.76 and sophomore
James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) placed third with a time of 2:08.57.
First-year
Asher Baron (South Londonderry, Vt.) placed sixth with a time of 2:10.95, while the trio of first-year
Ben Hostetter (Osterville, Mass.), classmate
Nick Heinrich (East Burke, Vt.) and sophomore
Connor Roy (Wellesley, Mass.) were separated by just 0.64 seconds. Hostetter finished in seventh position with a time of 2:11.03, Heinrich was 0.22 seconds behind him in eighth and Roy came in 10th posting a time of 2:11.67.
Senior
Sebastian Sheppard (Park City, Utah) finished 26th overall with a time of 2:17.33.
Babson will conclude its MacConnell Division regular season schedule next weekend in New Hampshire as it travels to Pat's Peak on Saturday and Waterville Valley on Sunday.
