Men's Basketball Plays Host to Salve Regina on Thursday Night

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 14-4 all-time against Salve Regina in a series that dates back to the 1982-93 campaign.
•    The Beavers have won 10 of their last 12 games against the Seahawks, which includes sweeping last year's regular season series with a pair of double-digit victories. 
•    The Green and White has won seven in a row at home versus Salve Regina going back to 2008. 
•    All four meetings between the programs since Salve Regina joined the NEWMAC prior to the 2023-24 season have been decided by at least 14 points with the home team coming out victorious three times. 

LAST MEETING
•    Felix Kloman M'25 scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the first half and Nate Amado '25 finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as Babson cruised to an 88-69 win over Salve Regina on February 15, 2025, in Newport, R.I. 
•    Alex Stoddard M'25 contributed 13 points and sophomore Logan Murphy scored eight of his 12 points in the first half for the Beavers, who built a 54-36 lead while shooting 67.7 percent and making nine three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes. 
•    Brad Fowler scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, Sean Seymour totaled 12 points and Declan Walmsley chipped in with 11 points for the Seahawks, who shot 66.7 percent in the first half and 52 percent for the game. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (11-5, 5-2 NEWMAC) has won five consecutive games after blowing out MIT 80-51 on Tuesday night in Cambridge. 
•    First-year Thomas Ferdinando scored 19 points, sophomore Timmy Mulvey finished with 17 and classmate Logan Murphy added nine for the Beavers, who opened the game with a 20-3 run and scored 29 points off the Engineers' 19 turnovers to stay unbeaten on the road in league play. 
•    Ferdinando (15.2 pts, 3.9 reb, 2.6 ast) ranks eighth in the league in scoring and is shooting 50 percent from three-point range, Mulvey (14.4 pts, 2.7 ast) is one of three NEWMAC players that ranks among the top 11 in both scoring and assists, and senior Timmy O'Toole (9.7 pts, 9.0 reb) leads the league in rebounding and is shooting 55.9 percent from the field. 
•    The Green and White ranks first in league play in scoring defense allowing just 58.1 points and is committing a league-low 8.7 turnovers. 

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
•    Salve Regina (12-4, 5-2 NEWMAC) has dropped two of its last three games and is coming off a 72-53 loss to Wheaton on Tuesday night. 
•    Zavier Francoeur scored 16 points and Seymour contributed 11 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals for the Seahawks, who finished just 2-of-13 from three-point range (15.4 percent) and committed 18 turnovers while being held nearly 20 points below its season average. 
•    Jack Margoupis (20.2 pts, 6.3 reb), who missed Tuesday's loss, leads the NEWMAC in scoring and has put up 20 or more points eight times, Seymour (16.0 pts, 4.4 reb) is shooting 49.5 percent and ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, and Pat Spenard (11.8 pts, 5.6 reb) is shooting a team-best 55.4 percent and has reached double figures in scoring in 11 of the last 12 games. 
•    Salve Regina leads all teams in conference play shooting 49.7 percent and is third in scoring offense averaging 74.1 points. 

O'TOOLE COLLECTS NEWMAC WEEKLY HONOR
•    After averaging 8.7 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 blocks, O'Toole was tabbed as the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. 
•    He pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds to go along with three blocks and three steals last Tuesday at Springfield, recorded a season-high four steals while blocking two shots in Thursday's victory over Wheaton and capped the week with 11 points, 15 boards and two steals in the triumph over Emerson. 

DIALING UP THE DEFENSE
•    Through its first seven conference games, the Beavers rank first in scoring defense (58.1 points) and second in opponent field goal percentage (39.8), opponent three-point field goal percentage (28.8), forced turnovers (13.0) and rebounding margin (+2.7). 
•    Babson has held all five opponents to less than a point per possession during its current winning streak and is allowing just 0.80 points per possession on 36 percent shooting overall during the five-game stretch. 

THREE AT A TIME
•    The trio of Mulvey, Ferdinando and Murphy combined to go 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from three-point range in Tuesday's victory at MIT, and all rank among the top seven in the conference in three-point percentage for the year. 
•    Mulvey became just the 14th player in program history to surpass 100 three-pointers in Tuesday's victory and ranks third in the league and 16th in Division III in three-point percentage (44.1). 
•    Ferdinando, who ranks second in Division III in three-point field goal percentage (50.0) and is tied for sixth in three-pointers per game (3.25), has drilled 52 triples on the year leaving him just four shy of the Babson rookie record set by by Michael Kingsley '97 in 1993-94 and matched by Mark Giovino '98 in 1994-95.
•    Murphy is shooting 43.1 percent from downtown on the year and is 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) over the last four games. 

HALFWAY HOME
•    Babson and Salve Regina enter Thursday's clash tied for second at 5-2 as NEWMAC play hits its midway point. 
•    The Beavers and Seahawks begin the night a game behind first-place WPI, which is 6-1, while Clark (5-3) and Wheaton (4-3) are just two games behind the Engineers in the loss column. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Senior Tyler Lauder, who dished out five assists in Tuesday's win at MIT, has blocked six shots over the last three games and has already set a new career high with 20 rejections this winter. 
•    Over the last four games, Mulvey is averaging 17.5 points and has gone 18-of-32 (56.3 percent) from beyond the arc. 
•    O'Toole leads the team with three double-doubles and has pulled down 10 or more rebounds seven times in 16 games. 
•    In seven games since returning from the holiday break, Ferdinando is averaging 18.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 52.2 percent from three-point land. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers have committed 12 turnovers or fewer in six consecutive games and own a 1.97 assist-to-turnover ratio during this stretch. 
•    Babson is 8-1 this winter when making at least 10 three-pointers and have won 19 straight games going back to the start of the 2021-22 campaign when connecting on 13 or more triples. 
•    The Green and White is 10-2 this season when at least three players score in double figures. 
•    Babson has gone 15-2 dating back to the start of last season when holding its opponents below 67 points.
