Women's Basketball Carries Three-Game Winning Streak into Saturday's Tilt at Connecticut College

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 14-2 all-time against Connecticut College in s a series that dates back to the 1981-82 campaign. 
•    The Beavers have won six consecutive games versus the Camels, although just one of the victories – a 71-44 rout in December 2021 – has come on the road. 
•    Last year's four-point decision was the closest game between the teams since their inaugural meeting back in 1981-82 and was just the fourth contest decided by single digits in the all-time series. 

LAST MEETING
•    Graduate student Emily Flynn scored 10 of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter to help the Beavers defeat Connecticut College, 57-53, on December 30, 2024, in Babson Park. 
•    Flynn also grabbed 10 rebounds, senior Chloe Perreault scored 12 points and Camilla Silk '25 added nine points and a game-high 11 boards for Babson, which led by as many as 11 early in the third quarter and went 4-of-4 at the free throw line over the final 22 seconds to secure the win.
•    Sydney Marshall led all players with 13 points and five blocked shots, Addi Hunter scored 12 points and Catie Donadio chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds for the Camels, who outscored the Green and White 30-20 in the paint. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (7-4) enters January riding a three-game winning streak after holding off UC Santa Cruz 72-70 in the finale of the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament on Tuesday. 
•    Flynn tied for game-high honors with 19 points, sophomores Alessa Mendoza (15 points) and Julia St. Laurent (12 points) both set new career highs, and classmate Rylie Rosenberg chipped in with 10 points and three assists for the Beavers, who shot 54.8 percent in the first half and led by as many as 13 early in the third quarter. 
•    Flynn (15.7 pts, 7.6 reb, 3.8 ast) is shooting 47 percent and has scored in double figures in five straight outings, junior Samantha Reale (10.7 pts, 8.1 reb, 2.1 stl) leads the team in rebounding and steals but has missed the last four contests, and Rosenberg (10.1 pts, 2.0 ast) is second on the squad with 21 three-pointers. 
•    The Green and White ranks 18th in Division III in rebounding margin (10.6) and is 35th nationally averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game. 

SCOUTING THE CAMELS
•    Connecticut College (6-4) ending the first half of the year by winning four of its final five games and is coming off a 66-44 rout of Coast Guard on December 8.
•    Catherine Cole paced a balanced attack with 12 points and Sofia Tavarez added 11 points and five assists for the Camels, who got at least five points from eight different players while holding the Bears to just 25.4 percent shooting.
•    Tavarez (15.9 pts, 2.7 ast, 2.5 reb) is shooting 48.4 percent and has scored in double figures in nine consecutive games, Cole (9.0 pts, 3.8 reb) has knocked down at least one three-pointer in seven straight outings and Mia Xerras (8.4 pts, 2.1 reb) has made a team-high 21 three-pointers and is second on the squad in assists. 
•    Connecticut College, which has played four games decided by three points or less, is giving up just 55.8 points on 33.6 percent shooting. 

UNPACKING THE PEARSON TOURNAMENT
•    In addition to Mendoza and St. Laurent achieving new career highs in scoring in Babson's win over UC Santa Cruz, sophomore Mary Kate Flynn grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds in Monday's 67-65 victory over Hartford. 
•    First-year Devon Burke saw the first action of her career against Hartford and contributed four points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 13 minutes, and scored the game-winning bucket on a layup with 11.9 seconds remaining. 
•    Emily Flynn averaged 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists, while Mendoza contributed 11.5 points on 68.8 percent shooting (11-of-16) and 2.0 assists against the Hawks and Banana Slugs. 

HISTORY LESSON
•    The Beavers' back-to-back wins by two points marked the first time since 2014 they had played two straight games decided by two points or fewer and the first time since 2003 they recorded consecutive victories by two points or less. 
•    Babson ended the 2013-14 regular season with a 57-56 loss to MIT on February 19 and a 74-72 setback against Clark on February 22. 
•    The Green and White defeated Springfield 50-49 on January 25, 2023, and followed it up with a 62-60 triumph over Brandeis in its next outing on January 28. 

CONTROLLING THE GLASS
•    Babson has won the rebounding battle in each of its first 11 games this season and has been outrebounded just once over its last 24 contests going back January 15 of last year. 
•    The Beavers have pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 10 of their first 11 contests and own an offensive rebounding rate of 36.8 percent while allowing their opponents to grab an offensive rebound on just 23.3 percent of missed shots. 

TRENDS TO WATCH
•    Over the last three games, first-year Molly Donovan is averaging 7.0 points on 7-of-11 shooting (63.6 percent) and 3.0 rebounds in 15.7 minutes off the bench. 
•    Rosenberg is second on the team in free throw attempts (27) and has gone to the line at least three times in each of the last five contests. 
•    Perreault, who is fourth on the team in scoring averaging 8.5 points, is contributing 10.0 points over the last four games and has made at least one three-pointer in 10 of 11 outings this winter. 
•    Emily Flynn has made at least one three-pointer in 13 straight games and with two in Tuesday's win over UC Santa Cruz, she ranks sixth on the program's all-time list with 94 career triples. 
•    After scoring seven points in 36 minutes of action over Babson's first six games, Mendoza is averaging 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 59 percent from the floor over the last five contests. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 6-0 this year and 32-3 under third-year head coach Kate Barnosky when taking a lead into the fourth quarter. 
•    Babson is 5-1 this season when holding its opponents below 40 percent shooting. 
•    The Green and White is 7-2 this winter when scoring at least 60 points and 5-0 when topping 70 points. 
•    Babson is 5-0 this season and 24-4 over the last three years when outscoring its foes at the free throw line.
