Women's Basketball Takes on Springfield in NEWMAC Opener on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 37-16 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 1993.
•    The Beavers have won three straight and 14 of the last 19 games versus the Pride and swept a pair of meetings last season by a total of six points. 
•    Eight of the last 11 contests between the squads have been won by the home team, with six of them having been decided by five points or less. 
•    The Green and White is 6-1 inside Staake Gymnasium against Springfield since 2019.

LAST MEETING
•    Junior Samantha Reale scored 12 of her 15 points in the first half to lead three players in double figures as Babson defeated the Pride, 60-56, on February 15, 2025, in Springfield, Mass. 
•    Reale added seven rebounds and five steals, Katelyn Mollica '25 scored 12 points and Camilla Silk '25 contributed 10 points and five boards for the Beavers, raced out to a 25-9 lead and went back in front for good on a jumper by senior Chloe Perreault with 3:27 left in the fourth quarter. 
•    Kassidy Carrano led all players with 16 points, Amanda Leary added 15 points and Carrie Hess contributed 10 points off the bench for Springfield, which took its first lead of the game on a three-pointer by Carrano with under four minutes to play. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS 
•    Babson (8-6, 0-0 NEWMAC) has won four of its last six games but enters conference play coming off a 61-55 loss to No. 23 Trinity on Tuesday night. 
•    Sophomore Julia St. Laurent scored a career-high 14 points, classmate Rylie Rosenberg finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals, and fellow sophomore Allessa Mendoza provided nine points off the bench for the Beavers, who were tied with under four minutes to go despite shooting 33.3 percent and making a season-low four three-pointers. 
•    Graduate student Emily Flynn (16.2 pts, 7.4 reb, 4.0 ast) leads the team in scoring and assists and is shooting 46.6 percent from the floor, Rosenberg (10.4 pts, 2.2 ast) has scored in double figures in eight of the last 10 games and is first on the squad with 17 steals, and Perreault (8.1 pts, 6.8 reb) has pulled down at least five rebounds in six consecutive outings. 
•    The Green and White is averaging 65.7 points and ranks 50th in Division III in rebounding margin (6.9) and 51st in three-pointers per game (7.4). 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
•    Springfield (9-5, 0-0 NEWMAC) suffered a 62-54 loss to No. 4/3 Smith snapping its three-game winning streak last Saturday. 
•    Claire Finney scored 14 points and added five steals, while Leary contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Pride, which scored 18 points off 19 Bears' turnovers but got outscored 13-4 at the free throw line. 
•    Leary (12.9 pts, 6.9 reb, 2.6 ast, 2.4 stl) has posted two double-doubles, is shooting 46.5 percent and leads the team in steals, Natalie Lucas (12.1 pts, 6.9 reb) has scored in double figures nine times and is second on the squad in rebounding, and Hess (11.7 pts, 4.4 reb, 2.0 ast) is shooting 44.9 percent from the floor.
•    Springfield, which is averaging 62.6 points on 41.6 percent shooting, has committed the seventh fewest turnovers per game in Division III this season (12.1).

BABSON, PRIDE AMONG TOP FOUR IN NEWMAC PRESEASON POLL
•    After finishing second last winter, the Beavers were picked to come in second behind defending Division III runner-up Smith when the conference released its preseason coaches' poll back in mid-October. 
•    The Green and White totaled 104 points to finish ahead of third-place Emerson (93) and fourth-place Springfield (83) in the poll. 

FLYNN REACHES THREE-POINT MILESTONE
•    Thanks to knocking down a pair of triples in last Wednesday's win at Norwich, Flynn became just the fifth player in program history to make 100 in her career. 
•    Her 100 career three-pointers rank only behind former teammate and all-time leader Katelyn Mollica '25 (218), Erin Young '15 (190), Caitlin Boulier '08 (172) and Joanna Maher '03 (138) in Babson history. 

SUCCESS AGAINST THE PRIDE
•    Over her last three games versus Springfield, Flynn is averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists with one double-double. 
•    In five career games against the Pride, Reale has scored in double figures four times and is averaging 12.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.4 blocks. 
•    Perreault averaged 9.0 points on 54.5 percent shooting (6-of-11) and 6.0 rebounds in Babson's victories over Springfield last winter. 

BEAVER BITES
•    St. Laurent has scored in double figures in three of the last four games and is averaging 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 56.3 percent during this stretch. 
•    Rosenberg has scored in double figures in four consecutive games and has knocked down six three-pointers over the last two contests. 
•    Flynn has made at least two three-pointers in four straight contests and has connected on a triple in 15 straight games going back to last February. 
•    Coming off a 10-point, three-rebound performance at Norwich on January 7, first-year Alyssa Hopps came contributed six points, three boards and one assist in Tuesday's loss to Trinity.  
•    Mendoza scored nine points versus the Bantams and is averaging 7.9 points in eight games dating back to November 28.

NEWMAC TRENDS
•    Babson has dropped its conference opener in back-to-back seasons after starting league play with a victory 17 times in 18 tries from 2004-05 through 2022-23. 
•    The Green and White ended the 2024-25 campaign by winning its final seven NEWMAC regular season games while allowing just 52.6 points and boasting a rebounding margin of 10.8. 
•    The Beavers are 6-2 over the last two seasons against conference foes in games decided by six points or less. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 7-0 this winter and 14-2 over the last two seasons when leading entering the fourth quarter.
•    Babson is 5-2 on the year when holding its opponents below 40 percent shooting.
•    The Green and White is 8-2 this season when scoring at least 60 points. 
•    The Beavers are 5-2 this winter when making at least eight three-pointers.
