Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. — The Babson College women's tennis team had an outstanding weekend against both Assumption College and the College of the Holy Cross Saturday and Sunday at the Holy Cross Invitational.
The Beavers posted eight singles wins in Saturday's singles matches and captured both the A and B flight titles in Sunday's doubles.
SINGLES
The Beavers were dominant in singles finishing 4-0 against both Holy Cross and Assumption with all eight wins coming in straight sets. Senior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) beat the Crusaders' Phoebe Devine 6-2, 6-1, while first-year
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) downed Hannah Flynn 6-1, 6-3. Classmate
Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) defeated Ashley Zilora of Holy Cross 6-2, 6-2 and fellow rookie
Tina Liu (Plantation, Fla.) completed the sweep of the Crusaders with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Ava Lannigan.
Liu rolled to another 6-0, 6-0 win over Assumption's Estefania de Oliveira, while Cristiani was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Darja Trinerova. Sikharulidze beat the Greyhounds' Laurence Bosmans 6-1, 6-2 and Wang posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Marian Aguirre.
DOUBLES
Sophomores
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) took top honors by winning the A Flight with three straight victories. The duo posted a first-round win over Trinerova and Bosmans of Assumption, 8-3, and took down Carolina De Souza and Mia Monje of the Greyhounds in the semifinals, 8-2, before claiming the title with an 8-4 victory over teammates
Matia Cristiani and Sikharulidze.
Matia and Sikharulidze advanced to the finals with wins over Hannah Flynn and Ashley Zilora of Holy Cross, 8-1, and teammates Wang and Liu, 8-4. Wang and Liu captured their first-round match over Aguirre and de Oliveira of Assumption, 8-3.
Junior
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador) captured the B Flight title for the Beavers. They knocked off Lannigan and Maddie Hamm of Holy Cross in the semifinals, 8-2, and defeated teammates sophomore
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) and junior
Riya Matharoo (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) in the final, 8-2. Dorismond and Matharoo advanced to the final with a first-round victory over de Souza and Madison Ericson of Assumption, 8-6, and a triumph over Beren Vapur and Madison Forton of the Greyhounds, 8-2.
The Beavers will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships next weekend in Middlebury, Vt., beginning Friday at 9:00 a.m.
