WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Four different players finished a round under par and sophomore
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) fired a 5-under 66 in the afternoon to help the Babson College men's golf team build a seven-shot lead after 36 holes of the Williams Invitational at Taconic Golf Club.
The Beavers followed up their 9-over 293 in the morning with a 1-under 283 in round two and sit at 8-over 576 with 36 holes in the books. Williams (295-288) is in second place at 15-over 583, while Tufts (590), Amherst (598) and Hamilton (600) round out the top five.
After opening the day with a 4-over 75 that included three late birdies, Vantipalli posted the low score of his career with a bogey-free 66. He made all five of his birdies over the final 11 holes and is currently in second place just one shot behind Nick Smith of Williams.
Senior
Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) had a day to remember as he eagled the final hole of his opening round to shoot a 1-over 72 before making a double-eagle on the way to firing a 1-under 70 in the afternoon. Fowler's first round eagle came on the par-5 first, while his second round double-eagle came at No. 10, a 506-yard par 5. Fowler, who also made three birdies in round two, is just shots off the pace in a two-way tie for third place.
Junior
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.), who earned medalist honors last weekend at Middlebury's Duke Nelson Invitational, followed up an opening round 76 with a 1-under 70 in the second round. He offset a pair of early double-bogeys by making seven birdies in the afternoon, which included playing his final five holes in 4-under par to move into a tie for seventh position at 4-over for the tournament.
Sophomore
Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) got off to a strong start in the opening round for the Green and White making four birdies and a late eagle to post a career-best score of 1-under 70. He followed it up with a 77 in the afternoon and is tied for 11th place at 5-over.
Sophomore
Howie Poon (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) carded back-to-back rounds of 77 and will enter the final round in a tie for 38th position at 12-over.
Babson will begin final round play on Sunday at 9 a.m.
