Baseball Travels to Springfield for Final Regular Season Doubleheader on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 42-22 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 1996.
•    The Beavers have won 20 of their last 21 contests versus the Pride, which includes a sweep of last year's doubleheader in Babson Park. 
•    The Green and White is 9-1 on the road against Springfield since 2012 but split its 2023 twin bill at Archie Allen Field. 

LAST MEETING
•    Luca Rubin '24 doubled, homered and finished with four RBI as the Beavers defeated Springfield, 10-3, in game two of a doubleheader on May 4, 2024, in Babson Park. 
•    Luke Tanner M'24 went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored, senior Justin Guest was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored, and classmate Matt Milone struck out six and allowed just one run over 6.0 innings of relief for Babson, which went in front for good with a five-run third inning. 
•    Adam Fine went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored and Michael Barrett and Ryan Duffy both singled twice for the Pride, which made six errors in the loss. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (23-10, 8-6 NEWMAC) snapped a two-game skid with a 17-10 win over Wheaton on Tuesday at Govoni Field. 
•    Graduate student Brant Savage went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and six RBI, junior Zander Teator was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI, and Guest and sophomore Ryan Liss both recorded three hits and scored four times for the Beavers, who pounded out 15 hits and built a 9-1 lead in the fourth inning. 
•    Teator is batting .425 with four home runs, 11 doubles, 34 RBI and 29 runs scored, Guest is hitting .341 with 12 doubles, two homers, 18 RBI, nine stolen bases and a team-high 35 runs scored, and Liss owns a .328 average to go along with five homers, nine doubles, 28 RBI and 34 runs scored. 
•    Sophomore Jason Finkelstein is 3-1 with a 3.32 earned runs average and 27 strikeouts in 40.2 innings, first-year Chase Burrows is 4-0 with a 3.63 ERA and just one walk in 39.2 innings pitched, and Teator (6 saves, 2.30 ERA) has recorded 12 strikeouts in 15.2 innings and is holding opposing batters to a .210 average. 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
•    Springfield (12-22, 4-10 NEWMAC) has won two of its last three games after defeating Western New England, 10-5, on Thursday. 
•    Jack Dunaisky went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Michael Lepere doubled and drove in three runs, and Cole Zalegowski singled twice and had two runs batted in for the Pride, which finished with 13 hits while taking advantage of three errors by the Golden Bears. 
•    Chris Balchius is batting .331 with seven triples, three home runs, 15 stolen bases, 25 RBI and 27 runs scored, Lepere is hitting .292 with six extra-base hits, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored, and Dunaisky enters the weekend with a .282 average to go along with six doubles, four triples, two homers, 25 RBI and 21 runs scored. 
•    Nate Kelleher-Mochak is 1-2 with a 3.25 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched, JP Catellier (3-4, 3.80 ERA) has 37 strikeouts and is holding opposing hitters to a .226 average in 45.0 innings, and Ryan Delaney has gone 2-2 with a 5.11 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 24.2 innings over 13 appearances on the year. 

POSTSEASON POSITIONING
•    Entering the final day of the regular season, the Beavers are currently sitting fifth in the NEWMAC standings, a half-game behind fourth-place Clark (9-6) and percentage points ahead of sixth-place Wheaton (9-7).
•    Babson will earn the fourth seed and a first round home game next Wednesday with a sweep of Springfield or a split and a Clark loss to MIT on Saturday.
•    The Green and White will finish fifth with a split and a Clark victory over MIT, and can only finish sixth if they are swept by the Pride. 
•    In addition to jockeying for position in the conference standings, the Beavers enter the weekend at No. 36 in the Division III NPI rankings, which will be used to select the 21 at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. 

HOT AT THE PLATE
•    Over the last eight games, Teator is hitting .485 with five doubles, one home run, 15 RBI and 14 runs scored and has five multi-hit games. 
•    During this same stretch, Savage is batting .371 with three doubles, two homers, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored and also boasts multiple hits in five outings. 
•    Graduate student Thomas Parisi owns a .348 average and has two three-hit games over the Beavers' last eight contests, while classmate Jack Julian has three doubles and eight RBI during this stretch.

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Liss (27), Guest (21) and Teator (19) all extended long on-base streaks on Tuesday against Wheaton. 
•    Savage has reached base safely in each of his last 11 starts, Teator has at least one hit in 10 straight contests, and Liss has a base hit in his last seven outings dating back to April 19. 
•    Guest has gotten plunked at least once in four of the last five games and has scored at least one run in seven consecutive outings. 

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
•    Graduate student Tanner Santos, who is already the program's all-time leader with 60 stolen bases, has moved into third place all-time with 93 walks and his 130 runs scored rank sixth. 
•    Savage is now tied for second on Babson's career list with 24 home runs, ranks fourth in total bases (280), fifth in RBI (122) and eighth all-time with 38 doubles. 
•    Graduate student Tristen Spalter, who ranks eighth in Babson history in both wins (14) and strikeouts (137), became just the fifth pitcher in school history to surpass 200 innings pitched on Sunday. 
•    Guest has been hit by a pitch 15 times this spring, which is just one away from the single-season record of 16 set by Travis Jonasson '12 back in 2011. 

STATS LEADERS
•    Teator, who leads the NEWMAC in batting average and is tied for 19th in Division III in saves, leads the Green and White with 11 multi-RBI games. 
•    Guest and Savage are tied for the team lead with 14 multi-hit games. 
•    Burrows ranks first in Division III in walks allowed per nine innings (0.23) and second in strikeout-to-walk ratio (15.00). 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 18-3 this spring when allowing five or fewer runs. 
•    Babson is 20-0 on the year and 45-1 over the last two seasons when leading after six innings. 
•    The Green and White is 5-5 this season in games decided by one or two runs. 
•    The Beavers are 14-3 when outhitting their opponents and 21-3 when recording at least two extra-base hits. 

UP NEXT
•    Babson will open NEWMAC Tournament play on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
