No. 17 Men's Golf Ties for 16th Place at 52nd Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate

Vantipalli, Fowler Post Top-20 Finishes for Beavers

JACKSONVILLE, N.C.—First-year Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) closed with a 1-over 73 to tie for 14th place as No. 17 Babson College tied for 16th overall in the 52nd Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate on the Gold Course at Paradise Point Golf Course on Sunday. 

The Beavers shot a 12-over 300 in the final round and finished the 54-hole tournament at 42-over 906. Sandhills Community College and Shenandoah tied for first place at 9-over 873, No. 13 Guilford was third at 11-over 875 and No. 6 Oglethorpe (879) and Franklin & Marshall (8820 placed fourth and fifth, respectively. 

Vantipalli, who started on No. 13, overcame a double-bogey on the par-5 7th hole with a pair of late birdies to finish the day at 1-over and the tournament with a 3-over total of 219. Junior Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) followed up back-to-back rounds of 73 with a 2-over 74 that included two birdies and an eagle to finish the weekend tied for 19th position at 4-over 220. 

Sophomore Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) posted a his low round of the tournament, a 3-over 75, on Sunday that included two birdies to tie for 77th place at 16-over 232. Classmate Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) closed with a 6-over 78, while senior John Baldwin (Little Compton, R.I.) carded a 7-over 79. 

Babson returns to action on April 14-15 when it travels to Memphis, Tenn., to compete in the 54-hole Cochran Collegiate. 

TOURNAMENT NOTES
•    The Beavers 54-hole total of 906 is their highest in four trips to the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate. 
•    Vantipalli, who played the par-5s in 6-under par over the weekend, boasts a 71.90 stroke average over his last 11 rounds going back to early October. 
•    Fowler was 5-under on the par-5s and has a 73.8 stroke average in five rounds this spring.
