Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) and
Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) finished among the top 11 to help the 13th-ranked Babson College women's golf team capture the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate title on Sunday afternoon on the Scarlet Course at Paradise Point Golf Club.
The Beavers posted a final round score of 11-over 295 to finish the 54-hole event at 36-over 888, which was 13 strokes clear of second place York (Pa.). The Spartans had the low round of the day (291) to finish at 49-over 901, while Oglethorpe came in third at 56-over 908.
Zhu, who held a one-shot lead after 36 holes, closed with a 2-over 73 to come in second with a 54-hole total of 1-over 214. She made three birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey on the day to finish four strokes behind Sophia Martone of Bridgewater (Va.), who fired her second consecutive 68 to claim medalist honors at 3-under par.
Lu also shot a final round 73 and played her final 10 holes in 1-under to finish in fourth place with a score of 6-over 219, while Amaya carded a 3-over 74 that included a pair of birdies to move into a tie for 12th position at 12-over 225. Despite giving back four shots late in the round, McCarthy close with a 4-over 75 and tied for 11th place at 17-over 230.
First-year
Jennie Pan (Delray Beach, Fla.) closed with her best round of the weekend shooting a 6-over 77 to finish 30th overall and 31-over 244.
Babson returns to action next Saturday and Sunday when it travels to The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass., for the Jack Leaman Invitational.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• The victory is the second of the season for the Beavers, who also came in first at the NEIGA Championship back in October.
• Babson recorded its low 18-hole (288, second round), 36-hole (593) and 54-hole (888) scores at this weekend's event.
• Zhu tied for first in both par-4 (4-under) and par-5 (1-under) scoring, while Amaya tied for first in the field in par-3 scoring at 2-over.
• Lu, who was the medalist at least year's Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate with a score of 13-over 226, owns a 74.17 stroke average in six rounds at Paradise Point GC.
