WHAT TO KNOW
• The 17th-ranked Babson men's golf team returns to North Carolina for the second time in a month to compete in the 52nd Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate beginning on Friday morning in Jacksonville.
• The Beavers are taking part in the event for the fourth consecutive season and this year's tournament will be played on the 6851-yard, par 72 Gold Course.
TEE TIMES
• Play gets underway at 8:20 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and Sunday's final round times will be announced following the conclusion of the second round.
2024 CAMP LEJEUNE INTERCOLLEGIATE HIGHLIGHTS
• Junior
Shane Quinn tied for fourth place with rounds of 70-72-73 to post a 54-hole total of 1-under 213 to help Babson place fifth at the 51st Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate on April 5-7, 2024.
• Senior
John Baldwin shot 74-70-76 to tie for 11th place at 4-over and
Sean Fitzgerald '23 M'24 finished in a tie for 25th position at 8-over for the Beavers, who were in second place at 4-over after 36 holes before struggling in the final round to finish with a score of 24-over 888.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
• No. 17 Babson opened the spring portion of its schedule by shooting 2-over 578 to finish second at the Tiger Invitational on March 9-10 in a field that featured 13 of the top 30 teams in the Scoreboard Division III rankings.
• Sophomores
Evan Eichenlaub (69-73) and
Jack Berry (72-70) tied for sixth place at 2-under 142 and first-year
Aman Vantipalli closed with a round of 3-under 69 to finish in a tie for 17th position at 1-over 145 as the Beavers matched their lowest 36-hole score of the season.
• Eichenlaub is first on the team with a 71.42 stroke average and has four top-six finishes in five tournaments this season, Vantipalli (73.33) has finished under par in four of his last seven rounds and Berry boasts a 74.22 average and is 3-over in relation to par in his last two starts.
• The Beavers own a 293.75 team scoring average and have posted a score of 294 or better in seven of 12 rounds on the year.
HISTORY AT CAMP LEJEUNE
• The Beavers have come in fifth (2024), sixth (2023) and third (2022) in three previous visits to Paradise Point GC and own a 297.38 team scoring average in eight previous rounds on the Gold Course.
• Babson's low round of 1-over 289 came on the opening day of last year's tournament and its lowest 54-hole score in relation to par came in 2022 when it shot 14-over 870 playing two rounds on the Gold Course and one on the Scarlet Course.
• Baldwin, who is set to make his third appearance in the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate, owns a 74.5 stroke average in six rounds over the last two seasons.
ABOUT THE FIELD
• The Beavers are one of four programs ranked in the top 25 of the Scoreboard computer rankings set to compete in this year's Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate along with No. 7 Oglethorpe, No. 14 Guilford and No. 21 Averett.
• Oglethorpe and Guilford tied for first place at 7-over 871 back in 2023 and Oglethorpe posted a 3-under 861 to win by 14 strokes last season.
• Six of last year's top seven finishers on the team leaderboard (Oglethorpe, Husson, Averett, Babson, Guilford, Roanoke) will tee it up in this season's event.
BEAVER BITES
• Babson jumped from 30th to 17th following their runner-up finish at the Tiger Invitational and remain the top team in Region I by a large margin.
• Eichenlaub moved up from 29th to 12th following the Tiger Invitational, while Vantipalli (68th) and Berry (88th) are both ranked among the top 100 players in Division III.
• Junior
Colin Fowler made his season debut for the Green and White at the Tiger Invitational, finishing in a tie for 37th place at 5-over after carding rounds of 74-75.
UP NEXT
• The Beavers return to action on April 14-15 when they travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the Cochran Collegiate hosted by Rhodes.
