Baseball Hosts Wheaton in Regular Season Home Finale on Tuesday

Baseball vs. Wheaton
Tuesday, April 29 | 3:30 p.m.
Govoni Field | Babson Park, Mass.

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 39-58 all-time against Wheaton in a series that dates back to 1998.
•    The Beavers have won five of their last six games versus the Lyons going back to last season with four of the victories coming by one or two runs.
•    The teams have split their last 40 games going back to 2016 and 15 of the contests have been decided by one or two runs.
•    The Green and White has won its last three games against Wheaton at Govoni Field.

LAST MEETING
•    Graduate student Brant Savage went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to help Babson rally for a 7-5 win over Wheaton last Tuesday in Norton, Mass.
•    Senior Justin Guest was 2-for-5, first-year Gabe Cushner homered and junior Zander Teator knocked in Savage with a two-out double in the eighth for the Beavers, who got 2.1 innings of shutout relief from Teator and senior Luke McClintock
•    Timmy Wagner was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Robbie Lamond homered and scored twice for the Lyons, who plated a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 5-2 lead.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (22-10, 7-6 NEWMAC) has dropped two straight on the heels of an eight-game winning streak after falling 7-6 to Coast Guard in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader.
•    Graduate student Thomas Parisi, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, junior Chris Basile and sophomore Ryan Liss all homered , while graduate students Tanner Santos and Jack Julian each added an RBI for the Beavers, who scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to get the potential tying run to the plate.
•    Teator is batting .421 with four homers, 10 doubles, 30 RBI and 28 runs scored, Guest is hitting .331 and leads the team in doubles (12), walks (16) and runs scored (31) to go along with two homers, 16 RBI and nine stolen bases, and Liss checks in at .315 with eight doubles, two triples, five homers, 27 RBI and 30 runs scored.
•    First-year Chase Burrows (4-0, 3.63 ERA) boasts a 0.93 WHIP in 39.2 innings pitched over 11 appearances, junior James Clark is 2-2 with a 4.82 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 37.1 innings, and the duo of Teator (13.2 IP, 5 saves, 1.98 ERA) and McClintock (14.1 IP, 1-0, 1.26 ERA) have both made 13 appearances out of the bullpen and have combined to hold opposing batters to a .173 average.

SCOUTING THE LYONS
•    Wheaton (18-16, 9-6 NEWMAC) has won two of its last three games and earned a split of Sunday's doubleheader with MIT with a 5-3 victory in game two.
•    Lamond went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Shawn Cali hit a solo homer and Wagner knocked in a pair of runs for the Lyons, who saw Ben Oliveira improve to 5-1 on the year after allowing just one run over 5.0 innings.
•    Wagner is batting .397 with 15 doubles, four home runs, 49 RBI and 32 runs scored, Casey Wensley is hitting .379 with 11 doubles, four homers, 27 RBI and 38 runs scored, and Lamond enters the week with a .310 average to go along with 14 doubles, two triples, four homers, 23 RBI and 42 runs scored.
•    Aiden Cardoza is 2-4 with a 5.95 ERA, 26 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 42.1 innings, Evan Mello (1-0, 3.26 ERA) has recorded 31 strikeouts in 19.1 innings over 17 appearances out of the bullpen, and Jonah Fisher leads the NEWMAC with eight saves to go along with a 1.98 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 13.2 innings of work.

PLAYOFF POSITIONING
•    After getting swept by Coast Guard, the Beavers enter the week tied for fifth place with Clark needing one win or a loss by Springfield to clinch a spot in next week's NEWMAC Tournament.
•    Babson would need to win out and get some help to catch Coast Guard (9-4) and MIT (9-4) for second or third place, and must beat Wheaton (9-6) on Tuesday to stay in contention for the fourth seed and a home playoff game next week.
•    A loss to the Lyons would mean that the Green and White could finish no higher than fifth place.

LYON HUNTER
•    After being quieted in last year's regular season games against Wheaton, Savage has produced a major power surge in his last three games versus the Lyons going 5-for-12 with three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored.
•    Over the last four seasons, Babson is 4-0 when Savage homers against Wheaton.

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Liss (26), Guest (20) and Teator (18) all extended long on-base streaks on Sunday against Coast Guard.
•    Savage has reached base safely in each of his last 10 starts, Teator has at least one hit in nine straight contests, and Liss has a base hit in his last six outings dating back to April 19.
•    Guest has gotten plunked at least once in four straight games and has scored at least one run in six consecutive outings.

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
•    Santos, who is already the program's all-time leader with 60 stolen bases, has moved into third place all-time with 93 walks and his 128 runs scored are tied for seventh.
•    Savage ranks third on Babson's career list with 23 home runs and is seventh in RBI (116) and total bases (274), and eighth all-time with 38 doubles.
•    Graduate student Tristen Spalter, who ranks eighth in Babson history in both wins (14) and strikeouts (137), became just the fifth pitcher in school history to surpass 200 innings pitched on Sunday.
•    Guest has been hit by a pitch 15 times this spring, which is just one away from the single-season record of 16 set by Travis Jonasson '12 back in 2011.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 18-3 this spring when allowing five or fewer runs.
•    Babson is 19-0 on the year and 44-1 over the last two seasons when leading after six innings.
•    The Green and White is 5-5 this season in games decided by one or two runs.
•    The Beavers are 14-3 when outing their opponents and 20-3 when recording at least two extra-base hits.

UP NEXT
•    Babson concludes its regular season with a doubleheader at Springfield on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
