Softball to Host Salve Regina for NEWMAC games on Sunday at Alumni Field

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 5-2 all-time against Salve Regina in a series that dates back to 1996.
• The Beavers swept doubleheaders from the Seahawks in 2022 and 2024 in the first games between the two schools since 2005.
• The first three meetings between the Beavers and Seahawks were played in Florida in 1996, 2000, and 2005.

LAST MEETING
• Graduate student Moira O'Reilly tossed back-to-back no-hitters and recorded 18 strikeouts to help Babson sweep both ends of a NEWMAC doubleheader, 4-0 and 10-0 in five innings, on April 27, 2024 in Newport, R.I. 
• O'Reilly fanned the first seven Salve batters and struck out 14 all together with just one walk in the opener, and struck out four and walked the second batter of the game before retiring the final Salve 14 hitters in the nightcap.
• Sophomore Emily Walsh went 3-for-3 and Kate Karamouzis '23, M'24 was 2-for-3 in the opener; and Molly Hennessy '24 was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Michaela Russell M'24 went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and senior Athena Hadjipanayis finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI in game two.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (19-11, 9-5 NEWMAC) is coming off a non-conference doubleheader split against Bates on Thursday, dropping the opener 2-1 in nine innings before taking the nightcap, 3-0.
• Graduate student Cameron Whiteford tossed her second no-hitter of the year in game two, striking out nine and walking two. Senior Sara Moore went 3-for-4 with two RBI and became just the third player in program history to surpass 200 career hits, and sophomore Charlotte Raymond added two hits, including her second home run of the season.
• Pak (.457) is second in the NEWMAC in hitting with team-highs of 43 hits and 17 RBI, while Moore (.368) has 18 stolen bases and 24 runs scored. Walsh (.298) has a team-high six doubles and 12 walks, and first-year Belle DiCampello (.289) has three doubles, a home run and 15 RBI.
• Whiteford is 9-5 with a 1.73 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 93.0 innings pitched while O'Reilly, who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Bates, is 6-5 with a 1.84 ERA and 81 K's in 76.0 innings in the circle. Sophomore Katie Vlacich is 4-1 with a 2.87 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 31.2 innings of work.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
• Salve Regina (11-21, 6-10 NEWMAC) is coming off a NEWMAC doubleheader split against Coast Guard on Friday in Newport, R.I., winning the opener 7-3 before falling in the nightcap, 3-1.
• Senior Emily Lane had two hits and a stolen base and sophomore Emily Cronin knocked in a run in the game two setback. Junior Caroline Peterson allowed just four hits over the last six scoreless innings, but the Seahawks couldn't overcome a three-run first inning by the Bears. Senior Morganti Bello had two hits with a double and three RBI in the opener, and Lane and senior Sam Franceschi each had two hits and an RBI.
• Franceschi (.367) has five doubles and two triples and a team-high 16 runs scored, and Cronin (.295) has seven doubles, two home runs and a team-leading 20 RBI. Lane (.355) has three doubles and a home run, and Bello has six doubles. Franceschi (16), Lane (13), junior Skylar Wicklund (12), and senior Jacey Cosciello (17) all have at least 12 stolen bases.
• Senior Alex Kelly is 7-4 with a 2.93 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 86.0 innings. Peterson is 2-7 with a 5.94 ERA with 31 Ks in 68.1 innings.

A CHECK ON THE STANDINGS
• Babson, Springfield and WPI enter Sunday's games in a three-way tie for second at 9-5 in the NEWMAC, two games behind league-leading MIT (11-3).
• Emerson (8-8), Wellesley (8-8) and Wheaton (7-7) are in position to secure the final three playoff berths, with Coast Guard (6-8) and Salve Regina (6-10) still holding out hope.

SENIOR DAY
• Babson will recognize three seniors as well as a pair of graduate students who will make their final regular season appearances at Alumni Field.
• The seniors include Moore, Hadjipanayis and Alyssa DeStefano, while the graduate students are O'Reilly and Whiteford.

SUCCESS STARTS IN THE CIRCLE
• The Beavers have given up three runs or fewer in 13 of their last 15 games dating back to their April 9 doubleheader at MIT. 
• The trio of Whiteford (5-2), O'Reilly (4-2) and Vlacich (1-1) boast a 1.16 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP during this stretch and just 12 of the 66 hits they've given have gone for extra bases. 
• Opposing hitters are also batting just .177 against Babson's pitching staff over this 15-game stretch. 

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
• Already the program's all-time leader with 88 stolen bases, Moore has 202 career hits to join Catie Funk '13 (231) and Andrea Cartullo '07 (223) as the only three players in program history with 200 hits.
• Moore has also moved into fifth place in the Beavers' all-time record books with 241 total bases. 
• The active NCAA Division III leader with 847 strikeouts, O'Reilly's made her program-record 108th appearance on Thursday, breaking the tie she held with Ali Reilly '18.

TRENDS TO WATCH
• Moore (13) and Pak (11) lead the Green and White in multi-hit games this season.
• Over the last 15 games, Babson has outscored its opponents 14-1 in the first inning and 36-4 over the first three innings. 
• In 10 games this spring at Alumni Field, the Beavers are batting .307 as a team and have allowed more than two runs just once. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 15-5 on the year when scoring the opening run of the game. 
• Babson is 14-0 this spring when leading after five innings. 
• The Green and White is 18-4 this season when outhitting its opponents. 
• Babson is 5-6 this spring and 16-14 since the start of the 2024 campaign in games decided by a single run. 

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will play their final five regular season games this week on the road, beginning with a single game at Endicott on Tuesday in Beverly, Mass.
