Softball Faces Coast Guard in NEWMAC Tournament Elimination Game on Friday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    After splitting a pair of games on Tuesday, fourth-seeded Babson is one of four teams that will travel to Springfield, Mass., on Friday looking to advance through the loser's bracket of the NEWMAC Tournament. 
•    The Beavers will meet Coast Guard in the opening game of the day and the host Pride will take on Wellesley with the winners set to play at 4 p.m.
•    The team that goes 2-0 on Friday will advance to face the loser of Friday's WPI-MIT game on Saturday in Worcester, Mass.

SERIES HISTORY
•    The Beavers are 34-41 all-time against Coast Guard in a series that dates back to 1991. 
•    Babson has dropped four of its last six games versus the Bears on the heels of winning eight of nine games between the teams from 2021-23. 

POSTSEASON HISTORY
•    Babson is 6-8 all-time against Coast Guard in NEWMAC Tournament play and has recorded four straight shutout victories over the Bears in the postseason since 2021. 
•    The Beavers are 2-6 in conference tournament elimination games versus Coast Guard, but did oust the Bears with a 2-0 win in the 2023 championship.

THIS SEASON VS. COAST GUARD
•    Babson suffered a sweep at the hands of the Bears dropping 4-0 and 5-1 decisions back on April 18 at Alumni Field. 
•     First-year Charly Landow went 3-for-3 in game two and junior Emily Walsh finished the day with three hits and an RBI for the Beavers, who left 11 runners on base in the nightcap. 
•    Hayden Reilly hit a solo homer in the opener, MacK Murnane was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in game two, and Dana Walker tossed a three-hit shutout in game one and allowed just one run over 12.0 innings in the circle over both contests for Coast Guard. 

2026 RESULTS VERSUS POTENTIAL FRIDAY OPPONENTS
vs. Springfield

•    Babson went 0-2 versus the Pride, suffering 8-0 and 10-2 losses last Saturday in Springfield. 

vs. Wellesley
•    The Beavers are 3-0 this season against the Blue, which includes a 9-3 victory to open the NEWMAC Tournament on Tuesday. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Fourth-seeded Babson (20-22) followed up Tuesday's 9-3 win over fifth-seeded Wellesley with a 6-5 loss to top-seeded and 12th-ranked WPI. 
•    Junior Charlotte Raymond went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, sophomore Samantha Skivo was 2-for-4 with an RBI double and senior Allie Cubberly knocked in a pair of runs for the Beavers, who erased an early three-run deficit to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. 
•    Junior Lexi Sealey is batting .348 with 16 doubles, a homer, 27 RBI and 23 runs scored, Raymond has raised her average to .347 to go along with a team-best .430 on-base percentage, three home runs, 10 doubles, 26 RBI and 27 runs scored, and sophomore Belle DiCampello is hitting .347 with nine doubles, two triples, 24 RBI and 12 runs scored. 
•    First-year Anna Topel is 6-7 with a 3.96 ERA to go along with 49 strikeouts in 86.2 innings, junior Katie Vlacich is 7-10 with a 4.82 earned run average and 61 strikeouts in 94.1 innings pitched, and Sealey (3-3, 3.93 ERA, 57.0 IP) has made 16 of her 19 appearances in relief. 

SCOUTING THE BEARS
•    Seventh-seeded Coast Guard (17-17) defeated sixth-seeded Wheaton 4-1 in Monday's play-in game before suffering a 1-0 loss to third-seeded Springfield on Tuesday. 
•    Reilly went 4-for-4, Murnane doubled and Walker struck out three and gave up just four hits in a complete-game effort for the Bears, who allowed an unearned run in the second and stranded 10 runners on base in the loss. 
•    Abriana Schmutz is batting .394 with six extra-base hits, four RBI and a team-high 27 runs scored, Reilly owns a nine-game hitting streak and has a .353 average to go along with four homers, three doubles, 16 RBI and 26 runs scored, and Murnane is hitting .289 with four home runs, 10 doubles, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored. 
•    Walker is 13-10 with a 1.22 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, three shutouts and 109 strikeouts in 131.2 innings pitched this spring while holding opposing batters to a .213 average. 

BABSON IN THE POSTSEASON
•    The Beavers have captured four NEWMAC championships (2004, 2005, 2017, 2021) and has won at least two games in eight of the last nine tournaments going back to 2016. 
•    In addition to their 2017 and 2021 titles, the Beavers also advanced the championship round of the tournament in 2018, 2024 and 2025
•    With Tuesday's victory over Wellesley, the Beavers have opened the NEWMAC Tournament with a victory in nine consecutive seasons going back to 2016. 
•    The Green and White is 8-6 in NEWMAC Tournament elimination games dating back to 2017.

BABSON TRENDS
•    DiCampello has reached base safely in 16 of her last 17 games, while Walsh has found her way on base in 12 of her last 14 outings. 
•    Sealey leads the Green and White with 13 multi-hit and six multi-RBI games, while DiCampello is second in both categories with 11 multi-hit and five multi-RBI games. 
•    Raymond has at least one RBI in nine of the last 11 contests, while junior Devin McCall has scored a run in seven of her last nine starts. 
•    Skivo, who recorded a career-high four hits in game one of last Friday's twin bill with Wellesley, enters Friday with a six-game hitting streak after going 11-for-18 (.611) at the dish with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored during this stretch.
•    Cubberly has started nine of Babson's last 11 games and has recorded multiple hits twice and two or more RBI four times during this stretch. 
•    Junior Ruby Madia is 7-for-15 (.467) at the plate in seven games going back to April 24 with a double, two triples and five runs batted in.

NEWMAC LEADERS
•    In 20 games versus league during the regular season, Raymond ranks sixth in doubles (8) and total bases (42), seventh in RBI (17) and eighth in both OPS (1.077) and hits (28). 
•    Sealey ranks second with 11 doubles and fifth in RBI (18), while Walsh ranks second in walks (12) and is tied for third in triples (2). 

TWO AT A TIME
•    Sealey's 16 doubles this spring are tied for third on Babson's single-season list and are the most by any player since 2016. 
•    As a team, the Beavers rank 55th nationally in doubles and their 75 on the year are the program's most since the 2013 squad set a school record with 92 two-baggers.  

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
•    The Beavers allowed just two runs over the first five innings their April 18 doubleheader but were outscored 7-0 by Coast Guard in the sixth and seventh innings. 
•    Babson recorded just two extra-base hits – doubles by Walsh and Sealey – and batted .133 (2-for-15) with runners in scoring position in the regular season games against the Bears. 
•    The Coast Guard pitching staff has allowed just two home runs and 37 extra-base hits this season in addition to walking just 54 hitters.
•    Since making four errors in the game one loss to Coast Guard on April 18, Babson has committed one error or fewer in 12 consecutive games. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 14-4 when scoring the first run of the game this spring. 
•    Babson is 11-2 when allowing two runs or fewer on the year.
•    The Green and White is 15-4 when recording more hits than its opponents.
•    The Beavers are 18-1 this spring when leading after five innings. 
•    Babson is 7-8 in games decided by either one or two runs.
