Baseball Hosts Coast Guard for Key NEWMAC Doubleheader on Sunday

SERIES HISTORY 

•    Babson is 67-25 all-time against Coast Guard in a series that dates back to 1978.
•    The Beavers defeated the Bears twice in three meetings last season and have won 15 of the last 18 games between the teams since 2016. 
•    All three games last season were decided by one or two runs and both regular season matchups finished in extra innings. 
•    Sunday's games are just the third and fourth at Govoni Field between Babson and Coast Guard since 2018. 

LAST MEETING
•    John Nowak M'24 hit a three-run homer and led all players with five RBI, and Babson put up eight runs in the fourth inning on the way to defeating Coast Guard, 12-10, in NEWMAC Tournament action on May 9, 2024, in New London, Conn.
•    Graduate student Tanner Santos went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Luke Tanner M'24 was 2-for-5 with an RBI double and two runs scored, who got three scoreless innings from senior Luke McClintock, Zach Magee M'24 and junior Zander Teator
•    Parker Madden went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, and Carson Cho and John Carroll both knocked in a pair of runs for the Bears, who jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second inning and later pulled within 10-9 thanks to a four-run fifth inning.  

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (22-8, 7-4 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to eight games with a 17-12 victory at Johnson & Wales on Thursday afternoon. 
•    Graduate student Thomas Parisi went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI, Teator went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and five runs scored, and first-year Gabe Cushner homered, knocked in three runs and scored three times for the Beavers, who matched their season high with 17 hits. 
•    Teator is batting .441 with four homers, 10 doubles, 28 RBI and 28 runs scored, senior Justin Guest is hitting .342 with 11 doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI and 29 runs scored, and sophomore Ryan Liss owns a .314 average to go along with eight doubles, two triples, four homers, 25 RBI and 28 runs scored. 
•    Sophomore Jason Finkelstein is 3-0 with a 3.03 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 35.2 innings pitched, graduate student Tristen Spalter (3-3, 6.32 ERA) has recorded 27 strikeouts against just nine walks in 37.0 innings, and the duo of Teator (5 saves, 2.13 ERA) and McClintock (2-0, 1.35 ERA) have both made 12 appearances out of the bullpen while combining to hold opposing hitters to a .177 average. 

SCOUTING THE BEARS
•    Coast Guard (19-8, 7-4 NEWMAC) has won its last three games and is coming off a 10-7 victory over Mitchell on Thursday afternoon. 
•    Connor Cilento his a first-inning grand slam, Kael Godshalk went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Wyatt Duthu singled twice and scored three times for the Bears, who jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and held off a late rally by the Mariners. 
•    Cho is batting .406 with 15 doubles, two homers, 22 RBI and 37 runs scored, Rick Barkley is hitting .315 with 10 home runs, five doubles, 31 RBI and 26 runs scored, and reigning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year Nathan Stafford checks in at .310 with five doubles, three homers, 24 RBI and 26 runs scored. 
•    Vito Giordano is 5-1 with a 2.34 earned run average and 34 strikeouts in 42.1 innings, John DiMarsico (5-2, 4.34 ERA) has fanned 24 in 29.0 innings, and Jackson Dorsey is 1-0 with two saves, a 1.38 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 32.2 innings of work over 16 appearances out of the bullpen. 

PLAYOFF PUSH
•    Babson enters the final week of the regular season as one of five teams separated by just two games in the loss column of the NEWMAC standings. 
•    Salve Regina sits atop the standings at 9-3, MIT is a half-game back in second place at 8-3, Babson (7-4) and Coast Guard (7-4) are tied for third, and Wheaton is just a game and a half out of first at 8-5. 
•    Following Sunday's doubleheader with the Bears, the Green and White hosts Wheaton on Tuesday and travels to Springfield for a twin bill next Saturday. 
•    The top six teams qualify for the NEWMAC Tournament and the top two seeds earn a bye into the double-elimination portion of the championship.

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Babson's current eight-game winning streak is its longest since rattling off 11 consecutive victories from March 14-April 9 of last season. 
•    Teator enters the weekend having recorded at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored in seven straight outings, while graduate student Brant Savage is riding a six-game hitting streak. 
•    Liss has reached base safely in 24 games in a row, Guest has been on base in 18 straight contests and Teator, who leads the NEWMAC with a .530 OBP, has reached in 16 consecutive outings. 

TRENDS TO WATCH
•    The Beavers have at least one extra-base hit in all 30 games this spring and have walked at least once in their last 43 outings dating back to last year's 4-3 10-inning loss to Coast Guard on April 27. 
•    During its current eight-game winning streak, Babson is averaging 11.3 runs and hitting .349 with runners in scoring position. 
•    Sophomore Jack Moses is batting .471 with a homer, three doubles and seven RBI in five starts behind the plate in NEWMAC play, while Savage leads the Green and White with 12 RBI in 11 games versus league foes. 

STATS LEADERS
•    Teator ranks first in the conference with a 1.324 OPS and a .794 slugging percentage, and his .441 batting average is currently 30th in Division III. 
•    Guest has been plunked 13 times, which ranks second in the NEWMAC, and is seventh in the league with a .490 on-base percentage. 
•    First-year Chase Burrows (4-0, 3.66 ERA) ranks second in Division III in walks allowed per nine innings (0.23), third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (14.00) and 34th in WHIP (0.97). 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson is 18-3 on the year when allowing five or fewer runs. 
•    The Beavers are 13-2 when recording at least 10 hits this spring. 
•    The Green and White is 19-0 this season and 44-1 over the last two years when leading after seven innings. 
•    Babson is 5-4 on the year in games decided by one or two runs.
