Baseball Faces Key Mid-Week Road Tests at UMass Boston on Wednesday and Johnson & Wales on Thursday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    After opening this week's three-game road swing with a victory at Wheaton on Tuesday, the Beavers head into Boston to face UMass Boston on Wednesday and will visit Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I., on Thursday afternoon. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. UMass Boston

•    Babson is 27-13 all-time against the Beacons in a series that dates back to 1982.
•    The Beavers have won four straight games against UMass Boston, which includes a pair of contests at Govoni Field last season.
•     The Green and White is 1-2 versus the Beacons at Monan Park since 2016 but is coming off a 6-0 win back in 2023. 

vs. Johnson & Wales
•    Babson is 8-2 all-time against the Wildcats in a series that dates back to 2006.
•    The Beavers have won three of their last four games versus Johnson & Wales since 2018 but dropped their last visit to Providence in 2023. 
•    Prior to last season's 10-inning affair, the previous five games between the teams had been decide by at least four runs. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (20-8) extended its winning streak to six games by rallying for a 7-5 victory at Wheaton on Tuesday afternoon. 
•    Graduate student Brant Savage went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, first-year Gabe Cushner hit his first career homer and junior Zander Teator knocked in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and earned his fifth save in the ninth for the Beavers, who trailed 5-2 going to the sixth inning. 
•    Teator is batting .424 with four homers, nine doubles, 25 RBI and 22 runs scored, senior Justin Guest is hitting .349 with 11 doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI and 27 runs scored, and sophomore Ryan Liss owns a .308 average to go along with seven doubles, two triples, four homers, 23 RBI and 26 runs scored. 
•    Junior Vinnie Purpura (9.1 IPI, 2-2, 4.82 ERA) and first-year Dillon James (15.0 IP, 0-0, 6.60 ERA) have both made a pair of starts this spring, while the trio of Teator (11.2 IP, 5 saves, 2.31 ERA), senior Luke McClintock (12.1 IP, 2-0, 1.46 ERA) and junior Connor Doan (11.0 IP, 2-0, 0.00 ERA) have combined to hold opposing hitters to a .162 average out of the bullpen this spring. 

SCOUTING THE BEACONS
•    UMass Boston (21-11) had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 6-1 seven-inning loss to UMass Dartmouth that was halted due to fog on Tuesday evening. 
•    Mariano Jimenez and Reed Burkett-Schneider both doubled, Nick Farinacci singled and scored in the first inning, and Tristan Ciampa struck out five and allowed just one earned run over 5.0 innings for the Beacons, who allowed five runs in the sixth inning. 
•    Mike Meagher is batting .389 with a .522 on-base percentage, 10 extra-base hits, 17 RBI and 31 runs scored, Richard Williams is hitting .375 with four doubles, three homers, 26 RBI and 23 runs scored, and Bostyn Burris owns a .333 average to go along with a home run, 11 doubles, 12 stolen bases, 21 RBI and 34 runs scored. 
•    Johnny Pagano is 3-2 with a 5.20 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 27.2 innings, Thomas Kierce is 2-0 with three saves, a 0.57 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP to go along with 25 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched, and Logan Lawrence (1-1, 2.25 ERA) has recorded 26 strikeouts in 24.0 innings of relief and is holding opposing hitters to a .198 average. 

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
•    Johnson & Wales (21-12) has won six of its last eight games and is coming off a 13-3 victory at New England College on Tuesday. 
•    Owen Davis went 3-for-4 with a double, a three-run homer and four RBI, Trevor Juan singled twice and knocked in three runs, and Ryan Ducey finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Wildcats, who had three pitchers combine for 12 strikeouts in the win. 
•    Juan is batting .346 with five doubles, four home runs, 37 RBI and 25 runs scored, Jeff Valdez Jimenez is hitting .333 with six doubles, five homers, 37 RBI and 38 runs scored, and Xavier Botelho owns a .298 average to go along with seven extra-base hits, 14 RBI, 21 runs scored and a team-high 28 walks. 
•    Brady Morin is 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 24.0 innings over 14 appearances out of the bullpen, Evan LaMothe (0-0, 5.48 ERA) has recorded 18 strikeouts in 21.1 innings pitched and Elijah Wells (1-0, 5.52 ERA) has made five starts and has 13 strikeouts in 14.2 innings this spring. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Liss has reached base in 22 consecutive games, while Guest owns an eight-game hitting streak and has been on base at least once in 16 straight outings. 
•    Teator has at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored in five consecutive games, and enters Wednesday's contest with an extra-base hit in four straight games. 
•    Savage has a hit in each of his last three contests and has reached base safely and scored at least one run in each of the last six games. 

TRENDS TO WATCH
•    During its current six-game winning streak, the Beavers are averaging 9.4 runs and have scored a combined 32 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. 
•    The Green and White has allowed 28 runs over the last six games, 14 of which have come over the first three innings. 
•    The Beavers have at least one extra-base hit in all 28 games this season are batting .337 overall and .353 with runners in scoring position to go along with a .455 on-base percentage over their last six outings. 
•    Babson has made just two errors over its last five games, and the pitching staff has recorded 16 strikeouts against five walks over the last three contests. 

CALL TO THE 'PEN
•    In addition to the work of McClintock Teator on Tuesday at Wheaton, the trio of Doan, Purpura and sophomore Tristan Pearl combined to go 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP in 11.0 innings of work out of the bullpen last week.
•    Doan struck out two and gave up just two hits over 4.2 scoreless innings to earn the win against Lasell on Tuesday, Pearl allowed one run over 3.0 innings in his first appearance of the year to pick up his second career victory on Wednesday at Tufts, and Purpura tossed 3.1 shutout innings that included three strikeouts to improve to 2-2 with the win over UMass Dartmouth on Thursday. 
•    McClintock has not allowed a run and boasts a 0.48 WHIP over his last eight relief appearances, while Teator has made five straight appearances without giving up a run dating back to April 2. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 17-2 this season when scoring six or more runs. 
•    Babson is 19-3 on the year when it finishes with at least two extra-base hits. 
•    The Green and White is 14-0 this spring and 54-0 going back to 2023 when leading after eight innings.
•    The Beavers are 5-4 in games decided by one or two runs.
