FARMINGDALE, N.Y.—Junior
Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) shot a 2-over 72 for the second day in a row to tie for 13th place as No. 20 Babson College placed sixth in the Farmingdale State Invitational at Bethpage State Park on Sunday.
The Beavers followed up Saturday's 9-over 289 with a score of 290 to finish at 19-over 579. Rensselaer posted the low round of the day (281) and finished at 8-over 568 to record a one-stroke victory over Farmingdale State and Rochester. No. 6 Huntingdon was fourth at 12-over 572 and NYU rounded out the top five at 18-over 578.
Fowler made three birdies on the front nine and was even on the day before making bogeys at Nos. 15 and 18 to post a 36-hole total of 4-over 140. First-year
Aman Vantipalli also closed with a 72 that included 16 pars and two bogeys to move into a tie for 17th position at 5-over 145 along with sophomore teammate
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.), who made three birdies over his final seven holes on the way to shooting a 3-over 73.
Sophomore
Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) played his final eight holes in 1-under to card a 3-over 73 that helped him move into a tie for 28th place at 7-over 147. Junior
Tomas Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) followed up Saturday's 72 with a 7-over 77 to grab a share of 40th position at 9-over 149 for the weekend.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Babson, which is currently 18th in the Division III scoreboard rankings, concluded its regular season on Sunday with a 296.15 team scoring average.
• The scoring average was 75.36 on Sunday on the Red Course at Bethpage, while played more than 7,000 yards.
• The Beavers ranked first in the 16-team field in par-4 scoring at 10-over.
• Vantipalli was one of three players in the 88-man field to finish even-par or better on the par-4s, while Fowler and Berry tied for seventh with six birdies.
