CORDOVA, Tenn.—Sophomore
Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) closed with a 4-over 76 to finish third as the 20th-ranked Babson College men's golf team placed third in the Cochran Collegiate played at Colonial Country Club on Tuesday.
The Beavers, who started the day with a two-stroke lead, posted a final round score of 314 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 49-over 913. No. 9 Oglethorpe recorded the low round of the day (296) to finish at 35-over 899, which was five shots better than second-place Lynchburg (904). The 10th-ranked Hornets were nine shots clear of Babson, No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan came in fourth (916), while Mary Hardin-Baylor (922) round out the top five.
Eichenlaub made 14 pars and four bogeys in tough conditions on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole total of 223 that was three shots behind Nick Rubino of Hampden-Sydney, who claimed medalist honors at 4-over. Junior
Shane Quinn (Morristown, N.J.) made the Beavers' lone birdie of the day on the way to shooting a 6-over 78 that helped him move into a tie for 45th position at 20-over 236.
Sophomore
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.), who fired a 5-under 67 in the second round, carded an 81 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 23rd place at 15-over 231. First-year
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) also shot an 81 on the way to tying for 28th at 16-over 232.
Junior
Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) made par on 10 of his first 11 holes in the final round before finishing with a 79 that left him tied for 33rd position at 17-over 233.
Babson is set to conclude its regular season at the Farmingdale State Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• The Beavers have now finished third in each of their two trips to the Cochran Collegiate over the last two seasons.
• Eichenlaub, who led the field with 41 pars and was second in both par-3 (E) and par-4 scoring (+4), has now posted five top-six finishes on the year.
• The final round scoring average was 78.78, which is the highest of the three rounds played at a Colonial CC layout that measured over 7,000 yards.
• Berry's 5-under 67 on Monday afternoon was the low rounds of the tournament and was one of only four rounds under par by 90 players over 54 holes.
