No. 20 Men's Golf Heads to Memphis for the Cochran Collegiate

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's golf team travels to Memphis, Tenn., for the second year in a row to compete in the 54-hole Cochran Collegiate beginning on Monday morning. 
•    The Beavers and their competitors will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on the 7,037-yard, par-72 layout at Colonial Country Club. 

2024 COCHRAN COLLEGIATE HIGHLIGHTS
•    Sophomore Evan Eichenlaub and Sean Fitzgerald '23 M'24 both tied for fifth place at 5-over to help Babson finish third out of 18 teams at last year's event on April 15-16. 
•    Eichenlaub carded rounds of 74-71-76 and Fitzgerald shot 73-75-73 for the Beavers, who finished with rounds of 298-297-304 to post a 54-hole score of 35-over 899 that was just four strokes behind second-place Oglethorpe. 
•    Junior Shane Quinn shot 76-76-74 to tie for 21st position at 10-over 226. 

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
•    No. 20 Babson is coming off a disappointing tie for 16th place with a score of 42-over 906 at the 52nd Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate back on April 4-6. 
•    First-year Aman Vantipalli shot 71-75-73 to tie for 14th place at 3-over 219 and junior Colin Fowler finished in a tie for 19th position at 4-over 220 after posting rounds of 73-73-74 for the Beavers. 
•    Eichenlaub owns four top-six finishes in six tournaments and is first on the team with a 72.93 stroke average, while Vantipalli leads the Green and White with five rounds under par and boasts a 73.27 scoring average in six events on the year. 
•    Fowler boasts a 73.80 stroke average in five rounds this spring, and sophomore Jack Berry (75.00) has finished under par twice on the season for the Beavers, who own a 295.40 team scoring average in 15 rounds on the year. 

ABOUT THE FIELD
•    Thirteen of the 18 teams in the Cochran Collegiate field are ranked among the top 50 in the latest Scoreboard Division III rankings, highlighted by a quartet of top-10 teams in No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 7 LeTourneau (Texas), No. 9 Oglethorpe and No. 10 Lynchburg. 
•    No. 18 Hampden-Sydney, No. 20 Berry and No. 25 Mary Hardin-Baylor are also set to tee it up in Memphis alongside the Beavers.

CHECKING THE SCOREBOARD
•    The Beavers, who are currently 22nd in the Scoreboard Division III computer rankings, own an adjusted scoring average of 293.6. 
•    Eichenlaub enters the tournament ranked 34th in Division III with an adjusted scoring average of 72.2, while Vantipalli is 74th with an adjusted scoring average of 72.5. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Eichenlaub's 72.93 stroke average this season is currently second on the Beavers' single-season list behind only Nicholas Gianelos '22, who finished with a 71.59 average in 2021-22 on the way to earning All-America first-team honors. 
•    Babson has had at least one player finish under par in six of its last eight rounds going back to the opening day of the Golfweek Fall Preview on October 13. 
•    The Beavers have finished with a team score of 294 or better in seven of 15 rounds on the year. 

UP NEXT
•    Babson travels to Bethpage State Park to take part in the Farmingdale State Invitational on April 19-20.
