Men's Golf Opens Spring Schedule in Pinehurst, N.C., at the Tiger Invitational

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's golf team will open the spring portion of its schedule with the Tiger Invitational in Pinehurst, N.C., for the third consecutive season. 
•    The Beavers will tee it up against some of the top programs in Division III over 36 holes on the North Course at Forest Creek G.C., which is a par-72 layout that measures 6,701 yards. 

2024 TIGER INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
•    Senior John Baldwin shot 76-73 to tie for 20th position at 5-over as Babson placed 14th out of 18 teams at Forest Creek G.C. on March 10-11, 2024. 
•    Sean Fitzgerald '23 M'24 shot 76-79 and tied for 53rd place at 11-over, junior Shane Quinn closed with a 4-over 76 to finish in a tie for 56th at 12-over, and classmate Colin Fowler carded an opening-round 76 for the Beavers in a field that featured 12 teams that were ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Top 25. 

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
•    Babson finished 16th in a strong 24-team field with a 54-hole score of 16-over at the Golfweek October Classic in Miramar Beach, Fla., back on October 13-15. 
•    First-year Aman Vantipalli shot 73-70-69 to tie for 20th position at 1-under and sophomore Evan Eichenlaub closed with a 3-under 68 to grab a share of 38th position at 2-over for the tournament for the Beavers, who posted their lowest 54-hole score (868) since April 2022. 
•    Eichenlaub is first on the team with a 71.50 stroke average in 10 rounds this this season, Vantipalli (73.50) finished under par three times and recorded three top-20 results in four fall events, and sophomore Jack Berry is third on the squad with a 75.14 scoring average in seven rounds on the year. 
•    The Green and White owns a 294.70 team stroke average and has posted a score of 295 or less six times in 10 rounds during the fall. 

BABSON IN THE RANKINGS
•    The Beavers are ranked 30th in Division III and first in Region I entering the spring in the Scoreboard powered by Clipd computer rankings. 
•    Eichenlaub, who tied for second twice and recorded three top-five finishes in four starts during the fall, is the 29th-ranked individual in Division III. 

BREAKING PAR
•    Eichenlaub (68), Vantipalli (69) and Berry (69) all finished under par in the final round of the Golfweek Fall Preview back on October 15. 
•    Berry's round of 2-under was the lowest of his collegiate career, while both Eichenlaub and Vantipalli finished under par three times over the Beavers' final five rounds of the fall. 
•    Eichenlaub fired a 6-under 65 in the second round of the West Pines Collegiate on October 7, which was the best round by any Babson competitor since 2021 and matched the lowest score in relation to par since 1992. 

WELCOME BACK
•    Quinn and Fowler are set to make their 2024-25 debuts in the Tiger Invitational after spending the fall semester studying abroad. 
•    Quinn was second on the team with a 74.35 stroke average in 17 rounds during the 2023-24 campaign, while Fowler close last season by shooting 3-under at the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational and had a 76.21 scoring average over 14 starts. 

TOP COMPETITION
•    Thirteen of the 19 teams in the Tiger Invitational field are among the top 30 in the Scoreboard Division III rankings, a group that includes four of the top five and eight of the top 13 squads. 
•    No. 1 Washington & Lee, No. 2 Methodist, No. 3 Emory, No. 5 Sewanee, No. 7 Carnegie Mellon and No. 9 Lynchburg are among eight of the top 12 teams in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III poll in the tournament field. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers shot 308 in both rounds last season after finishing with a team score of 303 in the first round of the 2023 Tiger Invitational, which was reduced to just 18 holes because of poor weather. 
•    Baldwin owns a 73.67 stroke average at Forest Creek G.C.  
•    Five of 18 teams broke 600 over 36 holes at last year's Tiger Invitational and the winning score was 7-over 583. 

UP NEXT 
•    The Beavers return to competition at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate in Paradise Point, N.C., beginning on April 4.
