No. 14/19 Women's Lacrosse to Take On Emerson at MacDowell Field on Saturday

No. 14/19 Women's Lacrosse vs. Emerson

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 8-1 all-time against Emerson in a series that dates back to 2014.
• The Green and White have won all eight games since Emerson's only win, an 8-5 verdict on April 19, 2014 in Babson Park.
• The last five wins have had a margin of victory of at least 13 goals.

LAST MEETING
• Senior Amelia Novitch scored three goals and set career highs with six assists and nine points as No. 23 Babson put up 19 first-half goals on the way to routing Emerson, 27-3, on March 30, 2024, at Rotch Field in Boston.
• Senior Kathryn Blake had three goals and three assists for six points, Lily Ives M'24 scored four times and senior Clare Connolly recorded 18 draw controls for the Beavers, who saw 15 different players score in the victory. Anna Costello M'24 notched her first goal of the season and led all players with four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win.
• Senior Grace Danehy had two goals for the Lions in the loss. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (4-2, 3-0 NEWMAC), ranked 14th in Division III by the IWLCA and 19th by USA Lacrosse Magazine, blew out Mount Holyoke, 24-2, on Wednesday in South Hadley.
• Novitch registered two goals and three assists in the first quarter as Babson jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Novitch, fellow senior Jessica Evans, junior Lilly Bedard and sophomore Mia Fierro all scored three goals in a balanced attack. Blake, graduate student Ellie Hilsabeck, senior Michaela Downer and junior Tatum Sands scored twice each and senior Nora Lema chipped in with a goal, two assists, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Senior Cameron Rabenold added two caused turnovers and three ground balls in the win.
• Novitch (11-12-23) and Blake (16-6-22) are battling for the team scoring lead, with strong support from Downer (10-3-12), Hilsabeck (9-4-13) and Connolly (12-0-12). Evans (7-2-9) leads the team with three free-position goals and ranks second with 10 ground balls, and Connolly tops the NEWMAC with 58 draw controls.
• Graduate student Eileen Manning (8 CT, 7 GB) leads a defense that has allowed just 8.7 goals per game. Senior Kathleen Murphy has a 9.01 goals against average and a career-best .517 save percentage with 16 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in the crease. 

SCOUTING THE LIONS
• Emerson (3-4, 0-3 NEWMAC) has dropped its last four games after a 19-9 loss at home to Wheaton on Wednesday evening at Rotch Field.
• Senor Callie Krosin led the Lions with five points on four goals and an assist. Classmate Ava Selby (2g, 1a) and sophomore Ava DelliCompagni (1g, 2a) contributed three points each, and first-years Laura Lovell and Stella Huberlie added a goal and an assist apiece. DelliCompagni and first-year Laina Gustafson grabbed four draw controls each, and Gustafson scooped up five ground balls. Junior Ellie Spotts made 10 saves in goal in the loss.
• Krosin (22-16-38) and DelliCompagni (13-18-31) give Emerson a solid 1-2 punch, while Selby (18-5-23), Lovell (12-6-18), senior Grace Danehy (10-7-17) and Gustafson (12-3-15) are all double-digit goal scorers. The Lions are balanced on draw controls among DelliCompagni (35), Selby (30) and Gustafson (28).
• Selby (11), Gustafson (10) and DelliCompagni (8) have combined for 29 caused turnovers, and DelliCompagni (21) and Selby (16) lead the team in ground balls. Spotts (16.00 GAA, .388 sv. pct) has started six of the seven games for the Lions.

MURPHY NAMED NEWMAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Murphy named the league's defensive player of the week for the second time this season on Monday. 
• The three-time All-Conference goalie went 2-1 in three starts with 25 saves, a 9.60 goals against average, and a .510 save percentage to go along with 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
• Murphy is third in the NEWMAC in save percentage and goals against average and ranks 33rd in Division III in save percentage.

SUCCESS IN THE NEWMAC 
• Babson has won 20 consecutive NEWMAC regular season games going back to 2023 and is 75-8 against NEWMAC foes as far back as 2016.
• The Green and White have outscored the opponents 59-16 in their three conference wins this season.
• The Beavers are aiming to become the first NEWMAC team to win three consecutive women's lacrosse tournament titles since Babson captured five in a row from 2007-2011.

QUICK ON THE DRAW
• Connolly, who has led Division III in draw controls per game the past two seasons, ranks third this season with 9.7 per game.
• The Beaver senior has upped her career totals to 581 draw controls, which ranks fourth all-time in Division III history. She is just 56 behind all-time leader Emily Wadds of Wittenberg, who grabbed 637 from 2016-19.

BEAVER BITES
• Evans has registered at least one point in 33 consecutive games dating back to 2023, and Novitch has a least one point in 21 straight going back to last season.
• Connolly has at least five draw controls in 32 of her last 22 games going back to April of 2023.
• Blake and Hilsabeck have scored in all six contests this spring. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 4-0 this season and 30-1 since the start of the 2023 season when scoring 12 or more goals.
• The Green and White have won their last 16 games since last season when leading at halftime.
• The Beavers went 15-0 since the start of last season when recording 10 or more caused turnovers.
• Babson has won its last 31 games and 41 of its last 42 contests games over the past four seasons when holding its foes to 10 goals or fewer.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will play back-to-back conference road games next week, beginning Wednesday at Clark at 7 p.m. in Worcester.
