No. 20/26 Baseball Opens NEWMAC Play Against MIT on Tuesday at Govoni Field

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 62-41-1 all-time against MIT in a series that dates back to 1980. 
•    The Beavers won all three meetings between the teams last season and have been victorious in five of the last six games against the Engineers since 2023. 
•    The Green and White is 5-1 versus MIT at Govoni Field since 2022. 

LAST MEETING
•    Graduate student Jack Julian and senior Justin Guest both drove in runs as part of a three-run sixth inning as the third-seeded Beavers defeated sixth-seeded MIT, 9-7, in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal on May 7, 2024, in Babson Park. 
•    Ike Kiely '24 went 3-for-4 with two RBI, John Nowak M'24 hit a two-run homer and graduate student Brant Savage doubled and scored three times for Babson, which got 2.2 shutout innings of relief from the trio of senior Luke McClintock, Zach Magee M'24 and junior Zander Teator
•    Michael Finch was 3-for-5 and hit a grand slam and Reed Tubbs added a two-run blast in the seventh for the Engineers, who erased an early 5-0 deficit with a five-run fifth inning. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 20 D3baseball.com/No. 26 ABCA Babson (7-3, 0-0 NEWMAC) suffered an 11-8 loss to Amherst in the last of a seven-game trip to Florida last Thursday. 
•    Savage and graduate student Thomas Parisi both homered, senior Walter Sadowsky produced a two-run single and graduate student Tanner Santos singled, drove in a run and scored twice for the Beavers, who were unable to hold onto a 6-2 lead after five innings. 
•    First-year Gabe Cushner is batting .444 with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored, sophomore Ryan Liss is hitting .324 with a home run, four doubles, eight RBI and seven runs scored, and Guest checks in at .289 with one homer, three doubles, six RBI and eight runs scored. 
•    Graduate student Tristen Spalter is 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 16.0 innings, junior James Clark is 1-0 with a 4.50 earned run average and 10 strikeouts in 12.0 innings, and Teator (0-0, 3.00 ERA) has recorded three saves while holding opposing hitters to a .174 average in five relief appearances. 

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
•    MIT (5-8, 0-0 NEWMAC) has won three straight games after completing a doubleheader sweep of Bates with a 7-2 victory on Saturday. 
•    Zev Moore went 3-for-5 with a double, John Dwyer and Malachi Soqui both singled twice and drove in a run, and Chase Rubin struck out four in 5.0 innings of shutout relief for the Engineers, who recorded a season-high seven stolen bases in the win. 
•    Moore is batting .438 with five doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored, CJ McCarthy is hitting .3032 with a homer, four doubles, four RBI and 10 runs scored, and John Spivey owns a .277 average to go along with four doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and 11 runs scored. 
•    Brian Rapanan (1-0, 1.93 ERA) boasts a 0.86 WHIP and is holding opposing hitters to a .170 average in 14.0 innings, Mason Estrada is 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 10.1innings, and Phillip Hood (0-1) has recorded two saves while striking out 10 in 11.1 innings over seven appearances out of the bullpen this spring. 

BEAVERS PICKED SECOND IN NEWMAC PRESEASON COACHES' POLL
•    Babson, which won three straight elimination games to claim its first conference tournament championship since 2018 last spring, was picked to finish second in the league's preseason poll. 
•    The Beavers received three first-place votes to finish behind No. 2/3 Salve Regina, which won a share of last year's NEWMAC regular season title before advancing to the Division III College World Series. 

PRODUCING AGAINST THE ENGINEERS
•    Santos hit .667 (6-for-9) with two doubles, one RBI, four runs scored and six stolen bases in seven attempts in two games last season versus MIT. 
•    Guest went 5-for-13 (.385) at the dish with two doubles, five RBI and four runs scored, while Savage was 4-for-12 (.333) with two doubles and six runs scored. 
•    Sophomore33also went 3-for-8 (.375) with three runs batted in in two regular season starts against the Engineers. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Junior Ryan Hvozdovic, who is batting .435 with a homer and three doubles, enters Tuesday's contest riding a six-game hitting streak. 
•    Cushner, Sadowsky, Parisi and Santos have all recorded a hit in four consecutive outings, while Guest and Santos have both reached base safely in each of the last five contests. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Sadowsky leads the Green and White with four multi-RBI games. 
•    Liss, Guest and Hvozdovic have all recorded multiple hits in four outings this spring. 
•    First-year Dillon James has recorded nine strikeouts in 8.2 innings and boasts a 2.08 ERA in three relief appearances, while classmate Chase Burrows picked up a pair of wins in Florida and is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings over three appearances this season.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson has won its home opener in six consecutive seasons dating back to 2018 and went 21-3 at Govoni Field last season.
•    The Beavers are 4-1 on the year when scoring in the first inning. 
•    The Green and White is 6-0 when allowing five runs or fewer on the year. 
•    Babson has recorded at least two extra-base hits in nine of 10 games this season.
