No. 19/30 Baseball Faces Scranton, Rutgers-Camden and Amherst to Conclude Trip to Florida Beginning Tuesday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    After splitting its first four games in Florida, the Babson baseball team will begin the second half of its trip on Tuesday afternoon against Scranton. 
•    The Beavers wrap up their visit to the RussMatt Invitational with games against Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday and Amherst on Thursday. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Scranton:
Babson is 0-1 against the Royals after suffering a 20-17 loss last season in Florida. 
vs. Rutgers-Camden: first meeting
vs. Amherst: The Beavers are 5-0 all-time versus the Mammoths although the teams have not met since 2011.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 19 D3baseball/No. 30 ABCA Babson (5-2) split its first four games in Florida and is coming off an 11-5 loss to No. 17/23 Rowan on Sunday. 
•    Senior Justin Guest went 4-for-4 with a double, graduate student Thomas Parisi had two doubles as part of a three-hit game and junior Ryan Hvozdovic was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Beavers, who pounded out 12 hits and had the potential game-tying runs in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth before giving up four runs in the ninth. 
•    First-year Gabe Cushner is batting .421 with a double and two runs scored, Guest is hitting .346 with a homer, three doubles and six runs batted in, and sophomore Ryan Liss owns a .321 average to go along with a home run, three doubles and three RBI in seven starts. 
•    Graduate student Tristen Spalter is 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 13.0 innings over two starts, first-year Chase Burrows (2-0) boasts a 1.13 ERA in 8.0 innings over two relief appearances and junior Zander Teator has recorded a pair of saves and four strikeouts while not allowing a hit in 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. 

SCOUTING THE ROYALS
•    Scranton (4-4), which faces Rutgers-Newark on Monday afternoon, completed a three-game sweep of Juniata with a 6-3 win on Sunday afternoon. 
•    Jake Elston went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Jared Cassella doubled and knocked in a pair of runs for the Royals, who jumped in front with a five-run first inning and saw three pitchers combine to allow just five hits on the day. 
•    Vincent Napolitano is batting .400 with six RBI and six runs scored, John Heitzman is hitting .308 with a double, two triples, six RBI and six runs scored, and Aidan Casey owns a .290 average to go along six runs batted in and five runs scored. 
•    Matt Scepkowski is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and nine strikeouts in 15.0 innings, Matthew Moreira (0-1) has recorded eight strikeouts while allowing six earned runs in 8.0 innings over three appearances, and Ryan Walsh has one save and a 1.50 ERA to go along with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings out of the bullpen this spring. 

SCOUTING THE SCARLET RAPTORS
•    Rutgers-Camden (10-2) had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Sunday falling 9-4 to No. 3/6 Johns Hopkins. 
•    Julian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Frankie Romond singled twice and drove in a run, and Steven Shaffer added an RBI double for the Scarlet Raptors, who got 13 strikeouts over 5.2 innings from Daniel Robeson. 
•    Diego Salazar is batting .412 with a home, five doubles and 10 runs batted in, Shaffer is hitting .395 with three doubles, a home run, nine stolen bases, 10 RBI and 20 runs scored, and Jacob Watson boasts a .362 average to go along with three doubles, 13 stolen bases and 18 runs scored. 
•    Chase Cooper is 3-0 with a 1.02 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 17.2 innings, Ethan Carpenter (3-0) owns a 3.10 ERA and has recorded 22 strikeouts over 20.1 innings in four starts, and Jacob Shapely is 1-0 with two saves in five relief appearances on the year. 

SCOUTING THE MAMMOTHS
•    Amherst (3-4) followed up Sunday's 13-6 win over No. 2/5 Endicott with a 13-7 loss to No. 17/23 Rowan on Monday. 
•    Tyler McCord was 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, AJ Zaccareo went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Charlie LaFreniere, Jack Boyle and Jack Sampedro each recorded a pair of knocks for the Mammoths, who pounded out 14 hits in the loss. 
•    McCord is batting .542 with a home run, four doubles, five RBI and five runs scored, McIntyre is hitting .500 with five extra-base hits, seven RBI and eight runs scored, and Zaccareo owns a .350 average to go along with two doubles and five runs batted in this spring. 
•    Matt Tabet is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts, Nick Fasserst (1-0) has a 3.45 earned run average in 13.0 innings over three appearances and EJ Nevills is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 8.0 innings over three appearances out of the bullpen on the year.

GUEST EARNS CONFERENCE RECOGNITION
•    After capping the week with his 4-for-4 effort on Sunday, Guest was chosen as the NEWMAC Player of the Week on Monday. 
•    He batted .467 (7-for-15) with a pair of multi-hit games, two doubles, one home run and four RBI in four games, which included going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in an 8-4 win over No. 20 Rhodes on Saturday. 
•    He owns three multi-hit games in seven starts on the year and has an extra-base hit in three straight contests heading into Tuesday's clash with Scranton. 

COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH
•    Senior Walter Sadowsky went 3-for-4 on the day and came through with a two-out, two-run double to cap a three-run ninth-inning rally in the Beavers' 4-3 win over Coe on Saturday afternoon. 

CALL TO THE 'PEN
•    The quartet of Teator, seniors Luke McClintock and Matt Milone and junior Connor Doan have combined to allow just one earned run on three hits in 11.1 innings of work out of the bullpen through Babson's first seven games. 
•    Doan (1-0) has held batters to a .091 average in 3.2 innings of work, McClintock has not allowed a hit in two appearances and has one save, and Milone is holding opposing hitters to a .182 average in three appearances. 
•    This group has combined to record 12 strikeouts and boasts a 0.71 WHIP entering Tuesday's contest. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers' five doubles in Sunday's loss to Rowan are tied for their most in a game since finishing with six in a 15-13 loss to Wooster on March12, 2023. 
•    Babson is 5-0 this season when allowing four runs or fewer. 
•    The Green and White is 4-0 this season and 29-1 since the start of last year when leading after seven innings. 
•    Going back to the start of last season, the Beavers are 16-4 in games decided by one or two runs. 

UP NEXT
•    Following its final three games in Florida, Babson welcomes MIT to Govoni Field for its conference and home opener on Tuesday, March 25.
