BEND, Ore.—Sophomore
Mads Fondevik Syversen (Oslo, Norway) and junior
Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France) both recorded top-five finishes to help the Babson College men's alpine ski team place second in the giant slalom in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Mount Bachelor.
The Beavers' time of 6:17.66 was a little more than two seconds behind first-place Rocky Mountain and more than 14 seconds faster than third-place Northern Michigan. Babson's MacConnell Division rivals Clarkson and Connecticut finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Babson's runner-up finish in the GS is its best over its last 12 appearances at the USCSA National Championships after coming in third in both 2020 and 2022 and fourth in 2013.
Syversen recorded the fastest second run among 101 skiers with his time of 1:02.42 and finished second overall just 0.21 seconds behind Jules Clerice of Rocky Mountain with his two-run time of 2:04.06. His runner-up showing is the best by a Babson skier at nationals over the last decade at nationals.
Perretta was in second place after his first run and posted a time of 2:05.35 to finish fourth overall, just 1.50 seconds off the pace of Clerice. First-year
James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) joined Syversen and Perretta in earning All-America honors in the GS by coming in 13th with a time of 2:08.25, while senior
Zach Carpenter (Boulder, Colo.) placed 17th after crossing the finish line in 2:09.58.
Babson will return to Mount Bachelor on Friday to compete in the slalom beginning at 12 p.m. ET.
