CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—Junior
Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France) placed third overall to help the Babson College men's alpine ski team finish second in the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday.
The Beavers' top three finishers came in 1.89 seconds behind first-place UConn, snapping their 10-race winning streak. Castleton came in third 1.10 seconds behind Babson, while Clarkson and UMass placed fourth and fifth, respectively, as MacConnell Division squads swept the top five spots on the team leaderboard.
Perretta recorded the fastest second run among 70 competitors to post a time of 1:22.78 that was just 0.43 seconds behind Marin Vigneras of UMass and 0.12 seconds in back of UConn's Ian Hanrahan. Senior
Zach Carpenter (Boulder, Colo.), who was making his season debut, placed seventh with a time of 1:24.84, while first-year
Moksh Patel (Edgewater, N.J.) came in 12th with a time of 1:25.33.
First-year
Connor Roy (Wellesley, Mass.) finished 23rd in a time of 1:26.23 for the Beavers. Classmate
James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) was sitting in fifth place after his first run but was unable to complete his second trip down the mountain.
Babson will conclude the regional championships on Sunday when it competes in the slalom beginning at 9:30 a.m.
