Men's Hoops Set for Clash with No. 1 Trinity on Saturday in Hartford

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 4-7 all-time against Trinity in a series that dates back to 1984.
•    Saturday's contest will be the first played in Hartford since 2009 and just the fourth between the teams over the last 16 years. 
•    Five of the last six games between the teams have been decided by seven points or fewer or in overtime.  
•    The Green and White has dropped its last three games on the road in the series and is looking for its first win over the Bantams in Hartford since 2004.

LAST MEETING
•    Felix Kloman M'25 and senior Timmy O'Toole combined for 13 points in the extra sessions as the Beavers handed then-No. 3 Trinity its first loss of the season 99-89 in 2OT on January 4, 2025, in Babson Park. 
•    Nate Amado '25 scored 24 points, Alex Stoddard M'25 provided 24 points, Kloman contributed 19 points and seven assists and O'Toole had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for Babson, who shot 46.7 percent for the game and led by eight with 2:21 to go in regulation. 
•    Henry Vetter poured in 30 points, Drew Lazarre finished with 22 points and eight rebounds, and Will Dorion added 11 points, five boards and three assists for the Bantams, who shot 61.5 percent while building a 10-point first-half lead and also held an 85-81 edge with under two minutes to play in the first overtime period. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (6-2) has split its last four games and suffered a 65-60 loss to No. 22 WPI in its NEWMAC opener on Wednesday night. 
•    Junior Marc Begin II scored 13 points, sophomore Timmy Mulvey contributed 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, and first-year Thomas Ferdinando added nine points for the Beavers, who led by as many as seven twice in the first half before shooting just 25 percent (7-of-28) after the break. 
•    Mulvey (14.6 pts, 3.0 ast, 2.9 reb) is shooting 50.6 percent from the floor and leads the team with 11 steals, Ferdinando (13.6 pts, 3.3 reb, 2.4 ast) has scored in double figures six times, Begin II (12.2 pts, 3.0 reb) is averaging 5.2 free throw attempts per game and O'Toole (11.3 pts, 9.0 reb) leads the team with two double-doubles. 
•    The Green and White is averaging 1.12 points per possession and ranks 14th in adjusted offense per The D3 Datacast, is shooting 46.4 percent from the floor and is 30th in Division III in three-pointers per game (10.6). 

SCOUTING THE BANTAMS
•    No. 1 Trinity (6-0), the defending Division III national champions, have won 21 straight games going back to last season and are coming off a 72-68 victory at Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday night. 
•    Jarrel Okorougo scored 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go along with five steals, Lazzare added 18 points and five rebounds, and Jared Berry finished with 13 points off the bench for the Bantams, who scored 30 points off of 22 turnovers by the Blue Jays and used an 18-7 run to build a 10-point lead with less than eight minutes to play. 
•    Okorougu (14.8 pts, 5.5 reb) has scored in double figures in five of the first six games, Vetter (14.2 pts, 3.7 reb, 2.3 ast, 2.2 stl) is shooting 54.4 percent from the floor, Lazarre (12.5 pts, 4.2 reb, 2.2 ast, 2.2 stl) is connecting at a 42.9 percent clip from beyond the arc, and Berry is averaging 10.0 points on 57.1 percent shooting in five games off the bench. 
•    Trinity is first in Division III in both adjusted offense and defense outscoring opponents by 0.53 points per possession, and ranks second in scoring defense allowing 55.0 points and sixth overall in field goal percentage defense (36.2). 

ELITE COMPANY
•    With two blocked shots in Wednesday's loss to WPI, O'Toole joined Bryant Richards '96, associate head coach Joey Flannery '17 and former teammate Nate Amado '25 as the only four players in school history to amass at least 500 rebounds, 100 steals and 50 blocked shots. 
•    He ranks 13th in program history with 585 rebounds and 50 blocked shots, and is currently 18th all-time with 103 steals. 

TRENDS TO WATCH
•    Senior Tyler Lauder ranks second on the team in both rebounds (7.1) and assists (2.6), and is shooting 60 percent from the floor over the Beavers' first eight games.
•    Ferdinando, who is Babson's first rookie to score in double figures in each of his first six games going back at least 16 years, is ninth in Division III with 26 three-pointers and ranks 34th nationally shooting 46.4 percent from long range. 
•    Mulvey ranks 15th in Division III with 25 three-pointers and 37th nationally shooting 46.3 percent from beyond the arc. 
•    O'Toole ranks 17th in Division III in offensive rebounds per game (4.13) and is shooting 59.1 percent on the year. 
•    In three starts this season, sophomore Logan Murphy is averaging 10.3 ppoitns, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists, and is shooting 47.8 percent from the field. 
•    Sophomore Ryan Frauenheim has scored in double figures in two of the last three games and is averaging 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals over his last four outings.
•    First-year Robby Fiore has scored in double figures three times over his first eight games and is shooting 57.1 percent on two-point field goal attempts.

SUCCESS ON THE SIDELINES
•    Babson head coach Stephen Brennan and Trinity's James Cosgrove are two of just three active Division III head coaches with more than 500 career wins and a national championship on their resume. 
•    Brennan, who ranks ninth on the active list with 503 victories, was tabbed as the NABC Coach of the Year after leading the Beavers to their first national title back in 2017. 
•    Cosgrove is eighth on the active wins list with 512 and is the reigning NABC Coach of the Year after guiding the Bantams to last season's national championship. 

RECENT SUCCESS VERSUS RANKED FOES
•    The Beavers are 1-1 this season and 4-3 going back to the start of the 2024-25 campaign against nationally-ranked opponents. 
•    Babson beat No. 11 WPI (71-60), No. 6 Wooster (69-61) and No. 3 Trinity (99-89, 2OT) in the span of four games in December and January of last season and was an 87-82 winner of then-No. 4 Tufts inside Staake Gymnasium back on November 14 of this year. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson is 6-0 this season when shooting 40 percent or better from the field.
•    The Beavers are 13-0 over the last two years when making at least 10 three-pointers. 
•    The Green and White is 6-0 this season and has won 10 consecutive games when scoring at least 70 points. 
•    The Beavers are 5-1 on the year in games decided by five points or less.
