COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Four members of the Babson College field hockey program were recognized when the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2025 Division III All-Region teams on Wednesday.
Senior
Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.), sophomore
Penny Baroni (Dennis, Mass.) and first-year
Anna Bonazzoli (Clinton, Mass.) were all named to the All-Region I First Team for the Beavers, and senior
Sanne van der Goes (Glenview, Ill.) earned Second Team accolades. DiGiovanni was honored for the second year in a row and the others are all first-time selections.
DiGiovanni adds to her list of post-season honors, having previously been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Athlete of the Year and First Team All-Conference. She led the NEWMAC in scoring with a career-high 25 goals and 50 points and ranked 16th in Division III in goals per game (1.04) and 28th in points per game (2.08). The Babson senior produced a career-best seven-game goal-scoring streak and five multi-goal outings, including a hat trick against Clark and a career-high four goals in a win over the University of New England. She also led the NEWMAC with eight game-winning scores.
A veteran of 86 career games with 68 starts, DiGiovanni scored 59 goals with five assists for 123 points. She ranks tied for fourth on the Babson all-time single-season goals list, tied for third on the all-time career goals list, and ninth on the career points list. She was named the Most Outstanding Player in this year's NEWMAC Tournament and was a member of the NFHCA Senior Team.
Baroni earned her first All-Region recognition after being named to the All-NEWMAC First Team. She finished second on the team in scoring with 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points and ranked in the top 10 in the NEWMAC in goals (7th), assists (6th) and points (8th). She has produced two multi-goal games, including a hat trick in a season-opening win over Endicott, and finished second in the NEWMAC with five game-winner goals.
The 2024 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Baroni started all 23 of her games this season and 34 of her 46 career outings. She has scored 16 career goals and added eight assists for 40 points.
Two of the five Babson players to start all 24 games this season,
van der Goes and
Bonazzoli both earned their first All-Region honor after receiving All-NEWMAC First Team recognition this fall. They back boned a squad that allowed just 22 goals in 24 games while recording 11 shutouts. They led a Beaver defense that conceded just three goals in nine NEWMAC regular season games with six shutouts and then posted back-to-back whitewashes on the way to the conference tournament title. Babson ranked 13th in Division III with a 0.89 team goals against average and 18th in shutouts per game.
A four-year veteran, van der Goes was selected to the NFHCA Senior Team after starting on defense for the Beavers in the last 85 of her 87 career appearances, helping the team to 45 shutouts in 94 games. Bonazzoli started all 24 games at center back as a rookie this fall, tallied a goal and two assists and was twice named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.
The group were the leaders of a Babson team that finished 22-2 overall under coach
Julie Ryan after advancing to the NCAA Tournament semifinals for the second time in three years and third time since 2017. The Beavers captured their 10th straight NEWMAC regular season title and fifth consecutive tournament crown.
