Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Colo.) and sophomore
Penny Baroni (Dennis, Mass.) were among 48 players recognized when the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its Division III All-America teams sponsored by Apex Field Hockey on Tuesday morning.
DiGiovanni was named to the All-America First Team while Baroni earned Second Team recognition. The selections of DiGiovanni and Baroni give Babson 25 field hockey All-Americans in program history, and at least two in the same year nine times in 10 seasons going back to 2015.
The NFHCA Region I Player of the Year, DiGiovanni earned her first All-America honor after being named to the All-Region First Team for the second year in a row as well as New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year and two-time All-Conference First Team. She led the NEWMAC in scoring with a career-high 25 goals and 50 points and ranked 16th in Division III in goals per game (1.04) and 28th in points per game (2.08). The Babson senior produced a career-best seven-game goal-scoring streak and five multi-goal outings, including a hat trick against Clark and a career-high four goals in a win over the University of New England. She also led the NEWMAC with eight game-winning scores.
A veteran of 86 career games with 68 starts, DiGiovanni scored 59 goals with five assists for 123 points. She ranks tied for fourth on the Babson all-time single-season goals list, tied for third on the all-time career goals list, and ninth on the career points list. She was named the Most Outstanding Player in this year's NEWMAC Tournament and was a member of the NFHCA Senior Team.
Baroni earned her first All-America recognition after being named to the NFHCA All-Region and All-NEWMAC First Teams. She finished second on the team in scoring behind DiGiovanni with 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points and ranked in the top 10 in the NEWMAC in goals (7th), assists (6th) and points (8th). She produced two multi-goal games, including a hat trick in a season-opening win over Endicott, and finished second in the NEWMAC with five game-winning goals.
The 2024 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Baroni started all 23 of her games this season and 34 of her 46 career outings. She has scored 16 career goals and added eight assists for 40 points.
Babson produced another terrific season under veteran coach
Julie Ryan, finishing 22-2 overall after capturing a 10th straight NEWMAC regular season title and a fifth consecutive NEWMAC tournament championship. The Beavers earned a sixth straight berth in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the national semifinals for the second time in three years and third time since 2016.
