Julie Ryan

The winningest coach in program history, Julie Ryan is in her 19th season as the head field hockey coach at Babson in 2025.

Ryan boasts a .732 winning percentage and has taken the field hockey program to new heights since arriving in Babson Park in 2007. Under her tutelage, the Beavers have won 11 or more games in 16 of her 17 seasons, which includes nine consecutive years of at least 15 wins since 2015 (not counting the pandemic-canceled campaign of 2020). Ryan guided the squad to back-to-back NCAA national quarterfinals in  2021 and 2022, putting together a 19-game winning streak and a program-record tying 21 wins (21-2) in 2021 and a 15-game winning streak and a 19-4 record in 2022, before guiding the team to a record 22 wins (22-2) in 2023 with the program's second trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four.

Babson has gone unbeaten in NEWMAC regular season play 11 times, including the last eight years, and finished as the league's regular season champion on 12 occasions in Ryan's 17 seasons at the helm. The Green and White enters the 2025 campaign riding a 68-game NEWMAC regular season winning streak that dates back to 2015. She also has led the program to six conference tournament championships (2010, 2016, 2021-24) while helping her players earn 19 NFHCA All-America awards, 64 all-region honors and 77 all-conference accolades.

Ryan and her staff have been tabbed as the NEWMAC Coach of the Year 10 times since 2010 to go along with four regional coach of the year honors, and has led Babson to eight NCAA Tournament berths. The Green and White has advanced past the opening round seven times and made history in 2016 by becoming the first women’s program in school history to reach the Division III Final Four. The Beavers duplicated that achievement in 2023 after back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in 2021 and 2022.

Ryan, who was inducted into the Quinnipiac University Hall of Fame in 2010, enjoyed a brilliant playing career for the Bobcats from 1998-2002. She was selected as the Northeast Conference Player of the Year and earned NFHCA Mideast All-America first team and Academic All-America honors while helping the program reach the Division I NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

Ryan, who served as vice president of the NFHCA Executive Board from 2017-19, started the Milton Youth Field Hockey program in 2012, and spent time as an assistant coach at Boston College, Springfield College and Yale University prior to her arrival at Babson.
