WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson women's basketball team gets its 2025-26 season underway on Friday night when it travels to Bristol, R.I., to face Roger Williams.
• The Beavers and Hawks will meet to open the season for the second time in the last three years.
SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 3-2 all-time against Roger Williams in a series that dates back to the 1981-82 campaign.
• After a 40-year hiatus in the series, the Beavers and Hawks will meet for the fifth consecutive season on Friday night.
• The home team has been victorious in each of the last four meetings with three of the contests decided by eight points or less.
A LOOK BACK ON 2024-25
• For the second consecutive season, the Beavers got hot down the stretch winning their final seven games of the regular season to earn the second seed in the NEWMAC Tournament before getting upset by WPI in the quarterfinals.
• The Beavers graduated a group of five seniors that helped the program reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and the national quarterfinals in 2023 in addition to advancing to the conference tournament final in three consecutive seasons from 2022-24.
• The Green and White will need to replace a pair of starters in
Katelyn Mollica '25, who averaged a career-high 15.0 points while connecting on a single-season program record 94 three-pointers, and
Camilla Silk, who averaged career highs of 7.1 points and 6.7 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Led by third-year head coach
Kate Barnosky, Babson returns three starters and nine players in all from a team that finished 16-10 overall and 8-3 in NEWMAC play last winter.
• Junior
Samantha Reale earned All-NEWMAC second-team honors after averaging 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals, and graduate student
Emily Flynn is coming off a breakout campaign that saw her average career highs of 9.8 points and 6.8 boards while shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.
• Senior
Chloe Perreault (5.4 pts, 3.5 reb) shot 43.1 percent from the floor, classmate
Allessia Carlo averaged 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds while starting 17 of 26 games, and sophomore
Julia St. Laurent contributed 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 16.0 minutes.
• The Green and White ranked second in Division III shooting 38.1 percent from three-point range and finished with a +6.3 rebounding margin while allowing just 59.5 points last winter.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
• Roger Williams returns four starters and 11 players in all from a team that went 18-9 and advanced to the CNE Tournament semifinals last season.
• Sophia Coppola (15.2 pts, 6.1 reb) scored in double figures in 25 of 27 games and averaged better than five free attempts per outing, while Chloe Richardson (10.0 pts, 3.0 reb) shot 36.4 percent from beyond the arc.
• Lilli Clark (8.7 pts, 7.0 reb) recorded two double-doubles and Meg Qualey averaged 6.0 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 48.8 percent from the floor.
• The Hawks held opponents to 59.4 points on 37.3 percent shooting and made more free throws (397) than its foes attempted (374) last winter.
BEAVERS PICKED SECOND BY NEWMAC COACHES
• Babson received one first-place vote and was chosen to finish second when the conference released its preseason coaches' poll back in late October.
• The Beavers finished with 104 points behind only Smith, which has won five consecutive NEWMAC titles and is the two-time reigning Division III runner-up.
• Emerson, Springfield, MIT and Coast Guard rounded out the top half of the poll.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
• Flynn, who led the team in rebounding last winter, recorded a team-high seven double-doubles, while Reale posted the first three double-doubles of her career last year.
• The duo also finished first and second on the team in both assists and free throw attempts, Reale led the Green and White with 49 steals and Flynn was second on the squad with a career-high 43 three-pointers.
FINISHING STRONG
• Over the last eight games of last season, the Beavers allowed just 53.5 points on 36.5 percent shooting while forcing nearly 18 turnovers per contest.
• Offensively, the Green and White averaged 69.6 points, shot 43.7 percent from the floor and owned a 7.5 rebounding margin.
• The Beavers also outscored opponents by 105 points in the first half during this stretch and led at halftime in seven of the eight games.
GETTING TO KNOW THE CNE
• In addition to opening at Roger Williams, the Beavers will travel to fellow Conference of New England (CNE) members Curry next Monday and Endicott next Friday to begin the season.
• Babson is 5-3 versus CNE opponents going back to the 2019-20 campaign having played seven of the eight games against Roger Williams and Endicott.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers went 6-4 on the road last winter, which includes winning its final five contests.
• In two seasons under head coach
Kate Barnosky, Babson is 24-3 when leading at halftime.
• The Green and White was a perfect 11-0 last year when shooting 40 percent or better from the field.
• The Beavers are 24-4 over the last two seasons when holding their foes below 60 points.
